Languages in Oerren

Languages are of great cultural significance in the Homelands because they reflect the stories and traditions of a region. You can find any language mentioned in official sourcebooks in the Homelands in addition to the unique languages found in this section. When a creature speaks common, you can generally assume that it speaks the common language of the region you find it in. For example, if you play in Pheloria, people speak the common language, Phelorian. The Common language from the Player’s Handbook does not exist in the Homelands.

Types of Languages

Languages can be divided into common languages, and exotic languages. When you choose languages for your character, you can choose freely from the common languages list. Languages that are exotic are granted from various sources, such as class features or backgrounds.

Racial Languages

The imperial states of the Homelands are a mix of races and cultures where your allegiance means more than your racial heritage. If your character learns a language from its race, you are free to replace that language with any other common language. Racial languages still exist in Oerren, but they are spoken mostly by isolated tribes of races, such as the Avariel elves in Lymia, or the industrious gnomes of the Silver Hills.
