The Auld Church

Since the gods left at the dawn of the Second Age (Age of Subservients), mortals have continued to spread their word and doctrine, promoting their worship. Across Iaphane, this is expressed through the Auld Church. It is an ancient organization that has adapted over time to better fit the political, technological, and magical scene of the world. Now, since the founding of the Reformed Orthodoxy in 1312 AM, the Auld Church has been challenged by an Empire that wishes to stamp it out.

Divine Origins

During the time of the gods, each deity had mortals who elected to follow them. These mortals were taught the beliefs and principles of their patrons and were granted special divine abilities, becoming the first Aasimar. After the rise of The Raven Queen and ascension of the gods at the beginning of the Second Age, these individuals remained upon the Material Plane and dedicated themselves to spreading the knowledge they had gained from their gods.   Traveling across the world to many lands, many different churches were founded to teach the peoples of Odrora. Across Iaphane, a great deal of gods were respected and worshipped, causing many religious wars between the acolytes of various gods. After many of these wars, an Aasimar cleric of Io gathered together the head clerics and paladins of the various religions to a conference in the Holy City of Irien. There they made the pact to form one religion that combined all of their knowledge of the gods, and together founded the Ionic Way, the precurser to the Auld Church.   In the beginning, each of these original churches continued to organize themselves much the same as they did before. The only new addition to the hierarchy was the addition of Servitors. At the head of the Ionic Way was the High Servitor, traditionally an aasimar who served Io, with the head of each god's worship referred to as Servitors.   However, this organization only lasted for a few centuries and came to an end during the War of Lights. This was a war of succession after the death of a High Servitor between all the Servitors and their Acolytes. After the climactic Battle of the Third Circle, the Servitor of Ioun took charge of the Ionic Way, renamed it to the Auld Church, and led a reform that negated a position at the head of the Church, making all of the head clerics High Servitors and giving the position of Servitor to all who work within Irien itself for the maintenance of the Auld Church. It was also declared that there would be no High Servitor in service of Io, for Io was worshiped by all through the praise of his creations.   There have been many small wars and adaptions since then, but the Auld Church has remained the same in its ideals since.
