Aquins

The Aquins are very civilized, almost merpeople who are very intelligent and productive. They can swim very fast and have an enormous civilization all over Octania, where they are the dominant species in the entire planet!

Basic Information

Anatomy

Aquins have a human head and body, but have a shark like tail. They have arms and hands like humans, but their arms are more like long flippers, and their hands only have four fingers (including a thumb). They have white-ish skin, that is tinted blue, and their hair is green-blue. They have big eyes to see in the dark.

Growth Rate & Stages

After every Aquin year (one and a half years human years) at midnight, each Aquin grows two inches exactly. Aquins do not grow at all during the year. The babies look like the parents, like humans do, and have the same stages as humans.

Ecology and Habitats

The Aquins live in giant caves dug under the sea floor. They have tunnels that lead into their caves, and each cave has an average twelve tunnels. The rulers live in hollowed out coral above the surface. Tunnels connect the caves to the coral. They fill the caves with water and then build neighborhoods inside them.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Aquins store and buy food just as humans do, but they eat whatever they can. In Octania, different plants grow under the sea, and lots more of them, so they use a lot of plant based food as well as fish and they can process food in factories, so they have packaged foods to sell as well. The main dish for Aquins is sushi, becuase they have all of the resources.

Biological Cycle

Once every two hundred years (Aquins live usually up to 5,000 years), the Aquins go to sleep for a year and when they wake up they return back to normal, as if nothing had happened.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

They have all of the senses that humans have, plus the same kind of sensory power that platypuses have on Earth, so they can sense things around them, even without opening their eyes. The average Aquin can do very basic and limited magic, but a small handful of Aquins, known as "sparkers" have very powerful magic, but since there are so few of them, they cannot always control their powers, and so they are treated with caution around the other Aquins.
