Ridley Chance

Marshall Ridley Chance

Charismatic and well-travelled, Ridley Chance began his life as a gifted musician trying to outrun the chains of his blood.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Ridley embodies the lean, wiry build of someone trained in a dextrous fighting style.

Body Features

Traditional Sunsinger tattoos span along both arms to his fingers, across his back and down his legs. His tattoos are exclusively done in black ink, and Ridley's feature piece is the living tattoo on his back, a nightingale.

Facial Features

Ridley's features are striking and defined, bearing much of the sweeping and slender structure one might expect of those descended from elves. His nose bridge is slightly raised as though broken a long time ago, and under the right light a short scar shines on his left temple, drifting into his hairline.

Identifying Characteristics

Ridley's pale blonde hair is shaved on both sides, displaying the shimmering gold brand of The Dead Kings above his left ear. His fingers, uncovered by the wraps he wears, are deeply scarred and poorly healed.

Physical quirks

His hands are often reflective of his thoughts and moods - though reading them is another question.

Special abilities

The Dead Kings are famed for their skill and expertise against the undead and malicious necromancy.

Apparel & Accessories

Wraps both his arms up to his elbows in cloth strips - a black satin wrap on his right arm, and a rough, faded crimson material on his left. Ridley's garb is primarily shades of deep red, cut through with gold and silver half-plate armour. Occasionally visible on his left arm is a woven, living vine bracelet. Growing from the bracelets are tiny blue violets and forget-me-nots.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Before his arrival in Dueam, Ridley was last known as a violet-eyed warlock contracting out of the of the Huntsmen's Hammersong guild. He is intensely private regarding his own personal history, and does not share much of it lightly - though his search for his son, Ash, is too important to conceal.

Dueam, entry 1

Yesterday the door was set aflame by some unknown magic as we all sat around the table in Lanath's quarters. There was a knock, and upon opening we were met not by the spires of Dueam, but by a barren, hellish landscape of lava and rock and little else. A man stood in the distance of this hellscape - presumably the one who knocked, despite his distance. Evidently this man was Ithafin, and he is brother to Nyra. I've heard a little of the she-devil, but not enough to fully comprehend their situation. He claims she is a thief and traitor to their family, and he wishes to be informed of her whereabouts, or even if she reaches out. He gave a sending stone to Sylfi - a piece of black coal is what it looked like. Ithafin claimed also that his family is in possession of one of the great shards, and that the family would lend its power in return for information on his sister. He seemed as sincere as devils often do, but I'd consider it unwise to bank on their aid in any case. It's all a bit beyond my paygrade, if I'm being honest. If I'm in a position to help reclaim their city, I doubt it will be a position very far from a battlefield. Time will tell. A short time after that encounter the others realised that their grumpy companion isn't in his room as they'd believed, though they seem unconcerned at this stage as to his whereabouts. Erlich, Yatdriedak and I remained behind as Jangovar and Llewyn went for a stroll in the gardens. Erlich gave me a look as though he was planning to subject me to the same torturously friendly interrogation that doubtless drove Jangovar out the door more than any sudden desire to smell the flowers outside. I don't know if I'd call it a mercy, but we were beset by concealed assassins before he had an opportunity to ask me anything. They attacked with poison as well as weapons, and after we three overpowered them, I examined them more closely. Scored. If I were a betting man, I'd wager that they were vassals of Lorcian Vell. They were hardly people anymore, they were so mutilated. And they produced the poison through their hands somehow, through some kind of slits that had been added to their anatomy. Yatdriedak has left to check on the others' safety. Hopefully their stroll was uneventful, and they are unharmed. Either way, it's safest to assume that Vell knows of Xantu's request of Benedict, and of our role in it. Our situation has become vastly more complicated.
