Mithral

"It is a gift not be wasted on just any artisan. It works like a dream, it is pure and true. Its song is like the sirens of the golden sea. Light as a hiccup and strong as the mountains it is torn from. Wasting even a morsel is an unforgivable crime to all who covet it."     Mithral is a metal of great renown, it is renown for its incredible properties.   Light as a hiccup. Mithral is the lightest metal in the world and sought after as such. It allows for even the weakest to not become encumbered by weight and the strongest to move with complete efficiency.

Transference. Mithral has the property of transference, meaning it adapts many influences into its form. As such it is favored by artisans such as enchanters as applying magic to its form retains the most favorable results. There are many other applications as a result of this property. The transference property has lead to many interesting subtypes of Mithral and is often referred to as "soaked ore" or it is named after the adaption i.e Spirit Mithral, Flame Mithral, Frost Mithral.

Mines and Trade. Mithral mines are incredibly rare and "soaked" mithral even rarer and mines are controlled by the kingdoms they find themselves in. The realms of Rhen'Moriloth and Lokara N'Durien hold the largest commodity of this precious metal. In Rhen'Moriloth the mines of Mount Muhreen boast the largest production of Mithral while in Lok'ara N'durien Mythfel boasts the same. Both mines produce the most Mithril however the respective powers control the supply. Many agents of rule watch over these mines protecting them. Thaiten being the land of sunbaked golden sands does not have any natural resources and as such must rely on the other realms to supply them with mithral and other mined resources.

Tears of the mountain. Dwarves believe that mithral and diamonds are the tears of the mountain. Hidden deep beneath the surface for only those who understand the stone. They are a great gift that should be respected and coveted, worked into great beauty to show how special the gift of the mountain truly is. When a work is made from these gifts the mountain from which the tears herald from is added to the name of the piece, the artisans and miners of Rhen'Moriloth are able to tell which mountain these gifts come from a tradition many artisans have adopted. Working with such materials is a great honor for them.

Of the Stars. The elves of Lok'ara N'durien Theorise that Mithral and gems are of the stars. Long ago before the ages of civilization stars collided with the land scattering and embedding themselves in the surface awaiting themselves to be found and utilized by those intelligent enough to use them. Though it wasn't until the conquering of the human tribes that elves began working with such materials, using the obtained workforce to mine such gifts to help build the high civilization of the Tri-Star cities.

Age of Woe. Mithral and gemstones are both a symbol of power as well as sadness for the kingdoms of man as they are a reminder of the age of Woe. The times before the emancipation from the high elves of the Tri-Star cities. It is often regarded with a air of remembrance and respect of those who came before and where the humans have elevated themselves from.
