Shelled scorpion

Shelled scorpions are a species of scorpion native to the dunes and rainforests of Elsweyr. They are known - and feared - for their robust, colourful, scarab-like shells, and retractable stingers. These provide them with a natural camouflage, tricking predatory animals and unsuspecting people into mistaking them for harmless bugs.
Their prey usually includes small, insect-eating lizards or birds that attack them in search of an easy mark. Their venom, while not stronger than that of other species of scorpion, contains a neurotoxin potent enough to quickly paralyze and kill small animals. It can be fatal to humanoids as well, but an antidote administered within two hours is enough to neutralize its effects.
