The Food Pill of Miracles

The current food source in Nuuk is a small edible pill that is able to give a person their daily nutrients and stimulate the taste buds of the consumer to simulate the taste of actual food. There are four separate pills a person can choose from that can create four different types of tastes. They are sweet, sour, umami (savory) and salty. Due to the lack of a sustainable natural food source in Nuuk and their depleting resources after the apocalypse, the scientists in Nuuk, led by head scientists Erik Lars Peterson, behind this endeavor had to use what they could at their disposal to accomplish this in a very short span of time.
The idea behind the edible pods was based of off the edible water pods created by a team at the Skipping Rocks Lab in 2013. These pods used a seaweed based film to make them edible and durable. The scientists in Nuuk used this idea to hold the contents of the minerals inside along with sodium alginate and food-grade calcium lactate. Thankfully, prior to the apocalypse, a food research facility had been established and running for at least two years, so they had a machine which could create these pods, but only small amounts at a time. After the food pill was created, focus was shifted to create a second or a larger machine to create more pills so there was a surplus rather than a lack of pills. After figuring out a way to extrapolate specific vitamins from different minerals in the ground and condense them into a powder like substance, other chemicals such as salt and glutamate was added as a taste factor. This was added as an afterthought once the food source was safely created and the second, much larger machine was built to increase production of these pills. Since the pills were created in such a short amount of time, but the pay off was so momentous, the word 'miracle' was added onto the name.
