Bastion

Demographics

90% Sudorian, 8% Heldorian, 2% Sylvan-Fey

Defences

Bastion is surrounded by a large stone wall built in the early days of the Republic, near the end of the 2nd era. It features large towers and defensible positions with a number of small gates for pedestrian entrance/exit. The massive main gate is often left open, but will typically close late at night with a few guards left to manage comings and goings. Large cliff walls facing the Western Ocean make it very difficult to attack by sea.

Infrastructure

Large seaport, Republic Guard Fortress, Council Hall, Walls of Bastion

Guilds and Factions

A The Temple of the Divine Trinity can be found near the market district, in addition to a chapel to each of the Divines.   The Republican Guard are trained and stationed in Bastion and take recruits for those wishing to join.   The Saddle-Bound Mercenary Company has a Guild House in Bastion.

History

Bastion was the first city founded by the Republic. Upon eliminating the Scale-Kin from the region, the newly founded Republic set out to build a monument to their grand new city, named Bastion by Harmon Delmond himself. It would take 30 years for Bastion's Walls to go up, so Harmon would never see the walls himself as he passed away well before then in the year 2459 2E. His son, Edmond Delmond, would lead Bastion to become an expanding force of human perseverance.   By 2470 2E, the Republic had grown to expand past the Walls of Bastion, heading back North to eliminate the straggling Were-Beasts from the frozen lands and claim the Frozen Pass  as their own. Soon, it became known that Bastion was the center of civilization in the western lands.

Architecture

Before the Republic was founded, Bastion was home to many Scale-Kin that made use of the natural rock formations that ran from the Verdant Plains and into the Western Sea. When the Scale-Kin were driven from there, the newly named Sudonians demolished much of the natural rocks and tunnels to level the land for construction. But not all of it was destroyed.   There are several caverns that run throughout Bastion's underworks that criminals and unsavory characters tend to use for various purposes. The city of Bastion tries to discover and shut down as many of these tunnels as they can, but many of the tunnels are dangerous to destroy, perhaps causing the collapse of the structures on the surface. Instead, the city reinforces these critical tunnels and stations Republican Guard to mitigate criminal activity.

Geography

The city is above sea level, but critical structures such as the Council Hall and the Republican Guard are positioned higher up on natural rock towers led up to by steps carved into the rock. Arable land and the beautiful @Verdant Plains surround the city making it very defensible.
