A World of Steel & Magic

Let it be known that the world as we know it today began and ended almost a century ago, with the Treaty of Renoux. This monumental document ended thirty bloody years of devastating war and ushered in an era of peace and prosperity for the peoples of the Twin Seas. In this time a nation would be founded in the small strip of land between the two Great Empires, in the war-ravaged and desolationborn hills centered under the looming Empires the treaty forged a Republic supported by both Empires as a symbol of cooperation and peace, one which would become among the most influential states in the world in its short history, this new nation promised a new horizon for the races of the twin seas, one forged by new men, new technology, and new ideas. This nation would be called, the Republic of Novus.   As history has shown us, however, peace is never permanent. In the half-century following the wake of the Treaty, the Empire of Pretoria would suffer great turmoil as the ruling class refused to adapt to the progress of the era, these discontentions would spark unrest, eventually leading to all-out civil war and the collapse of the empire as a whole. Even to this day, various autocratic successor states fight over restoring their now-defunct empire. Following a coup by supporters of the King, the other great power, the Empire of Albion has relearned its Imperialistic ambitions, and has been slowly carving up the states in the East and in the North. In this time it has invaded and overthrown even the Republic of Novus, the Beacon of democratic progress, forcing it to bend the Knee and leaving a puppet regime in its place, hijacking the Novetian Dream and twisting it for its own purposes.   Even now, Albion's forces sweep through the smaller states in the North and East. To the south, armies of the various successor states clash in a renewed struggle to reclaim their now lost Empire, while their leaders grasp for any advantage they can muster. In that Great City and Nation, that once Beacon of Liberty established by the Great Treaty, unrest is growing once more. Many in the nation are defiant against the looming giant of Albion and the corrupting influence which the Northern Empire exerts over the city as one of its protectorates. It is in this time of turmoil in which we set our scene, as the Next Era approaches.   The Year is 1166 Anno Umbra (or Years After Darkness)
