Halian (Ha-lee-ann)

The title of the occupants of Hali. They consist of many different types of people from those living in dessert caravans to jungle villages, simple farmers in the flat plains, and the sophisticated nobles of the capital. Though the people are of many different backgrounds and from different environments they all love their benevolent ruler Jade and praise the many changes she brought the empire in such a short time as monarch.

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

Animals are viewed with great pride and many larger animals are viewed as taboo to hunt. Particularly in the rainforest regions. Although not worshiped, they are given great respect and viewed as precious and intelligent life not to be trifled with. Halians also take great pride in the major tradition of the royal family known as the gem soldiers. Extremely loyal vassals that serve one member of the royal family that they are raised alongside or by. These Gems are also able to cultivate one special power each and can share that power with their chosen master along with gaining their masters ability as well. Most royals only gain one gem in their lifetime and those with multiple like Jade as viewed as especially powerful and are known to be particularly significant in history. This can be in both good or bad ways though as gems do not care about anything other than obeying their masters and do not have a care for right or wrong if it is their masters will. Not much is known how this tradition came about or why it happens, but Hali is the only place in Nula where such a thing occurs as far as anyone is aware.

Coming of Age Rites

Coming of age for Girls is 18 as well as boys although mostly only those with ties to nobility celebrate the occasion as commoners tend to focus on work and do not want to waste money on such things. This is due to the fact that most commoner children are already training or working in a profession and do not change anything in their life at that point.

Common Taboos

Hunting or killing particular animals, most from the rainforest regions as well as trespassing on the Lord of Shadows domain (see Hali Article) without permission.
