Nu-Earth and The Asomatous Plane

Nu-Earth is not dissimilar to our earth you call home. For one thing it is populated largely by humans; humans who love, humans who hate, and humans who wonder. Like the humans you know, many wonder about death, and what happens after. Unlike the humans you know, these think they're about to find out.   They're wrong.   It's been decades since the S13R detected the Asomatous plane, the supposed heaven for people of Nu-Earth. However even the best have yet been unable to determine exactly what they're seeing through the first hazy images of the other dimensions. That of course hasn't stopped wild theories from some scientists and out right denial from others. A few new religious groups have cropped up but mostly the old ones used used these findings to validate their already held beliefs. And now science and religion seem to be converging as the latest and greatest S33R claims to be able to use the same technology that first found the Asomatous Plane and turn it inward, to verify the existence of human souls. Now all humans of Nu-Earth are holding their collective breathes wondering just what this new revelation will bring.   But not everyone on Nu-Earth is human.   For you see the Asomatous plane is in truth a dying world, growing dim, no longer able to host it's own population. So many of it's citizens had to flee to some where else, a material world where they'd be kept safe...in human bodies. These Asomats do not posses humans, though many fear they will be accused of this. Rather they instead find humans at the moment of their death and take of the body the second the old soul leaves it. Have you ever known someone to recover from an injury that should've killed them? Have they woken up after being brain dead for years? Have they acted differently seemingly struck with brain damage, amnesia, or PTSD? Chances are that an Asomat may be living in their now discarded bodies for some time, undetectable by humans, until now.
