Rose of Justice

The Rose of Justice is a pocket sized compass encased in a delicately carved wooden casing. The carvings on the outside depict the Scene of final Judgement; an event during which the the gods of Novysvet gather to determine to which eternal plane the soul of a just deceased being will go. An interesting detail about this particular compass is that Myrkul is depicted on the council of gods as well.

Rumour has it, that during the 42 Year War a few of these compasses have been handed out by Lathander himself to high ranking members of the Royal Inquisition in order to aid them with identifying followers of Myrkul. Most of the Roses of Justice have been destroyed or lost during the war and the remaining ones have vanished during the centuries that followed.

According to ancient reports and stories from the War, when pointed on a sentient being, the compass shows it's owner the true nature of the being's soul. If the needle points up, the soul is clean, if it goes left the soul is chaotic, if it goes right the soul is lawful and if it points down the soul is corrupted and evil. Sometimes the needle would begin to spin very fast and the compass had to be reset.

Carved from the Trees of Arcadia and blessed by Lathander, the Roses of Justice have the power to momentarily see deep inside a beings soul and reveal his current intentions.
