History

The origins of Lathander's Offering date back to the First Era, before the fall of Omelas. Though the exact origins of the holiday are unknown, historians note that it was celebrated in most, if not all, of the Old Kingdoms by the Second Era.

Execution

Lathander's Offering marks the last day of a year. It is a celebration of the promise of new beginnings that a new year offers, and honors Lathander, the god of birth and renewal. In many cultures, it is seen as a great blessing to bear a child on the day of Lathander's Offering. Though there are few traditions associated with the holiday, there is one ritual that is ubiquitous throughout Noveska - the burning of items that one does not wish to carry into the new year. These are often symbolic representations, though the holiday also presents an opportunity to get rid of excess possessions. Thought varying cultures have different iterations of this tradition, nearly all cultures practice it in one way or another.
