Baranour

Im Menel A Coe - Between Heaven and Earth

Demographics

The population of Baranour is evenly divided between humans and raptorans. Dwarves and gnomes also make up a tiny portion of the population, due to the airship dry docks and service centers that are unique to the city.

Defences

The nation state of Baranour is widely considered the only nation in the Commonwealth to feature flying units as part of their standing army; regiments of Raptoran foot bowmen and bomber troops make up the bulk of the armed forces. Baranour is also unique in the world of Nova Solis as the only landlocked nation to maintain a navy, as the government has engaged a small contingent of airships to defend the nation.

Industry & Trade

Since the development of airships in 1477, the city of Baranour became a prime location for not only transport airships crossing the Great Circle, but as an airship service and development hub. Airship docking rings and drydocks were built into the mountains, and the development of airships has become the major industry of the city.

History

Originally the raptoran flock city of Bianaer, the city was conquered by the Empire in 765 during the Final Expansion. In the early years of the Empire's rule, the raptorans were understandably belligerent and resistant to both the Empire and the integration of Empire citizens into the city. However, as the years passed, the raptorans became more receptive to humans, and, as an act of acceptance, the city's name was officially changed in 877 to Baranour, although the raptoran population still refers to the city by its ancestral name.   It was during the Centurion War that the population fully integrated. After the death of Emperor Sterling III, the raptoran city leaders laid claim to the throne as reparations for the invasion, and, surprisingly, the human population supported their position, including Governor Wesley Overton. Later, after the Commonwealth Accord was signed, the people of Baranour overwhelmingly voted a raptoran as their first Minister to the Ministry Council, which signified the full acceptance of all races in Baranour

Architecture

The rising spires, cliffside dwellings, and vast rope bridges mark the city of Baranour in the mountains of the northeast. Rope and pulley elevators have been a staple of the city since the days of the Empire. More recently, however, clockwork elevators and cranes have begun to replace the more antiquated lifts.
