Dionysian

Basic Information

Anatomy

Fur covered, with horns, and goat like legs and facial features.

Biological Traits

most Dionysians are of towering height, though this can be diminished if a child is the result of a mixed couple, and may only be as tall as 6'05", with the rare occasion of reaching up to 6'08". And though most of them live a long life, this isn't true for those born in the homeland and Tern-Meron, which despite its wealth, is a dirty place, with countless impoverished citizens.

Growth Rate & Stages

Dionysians grow at the same rate as humans, and some live as long as a hundred years.

Ecology and Habitats

Given the thick layer of fur around their bodies, they prefer colder climates, and some even live in the mountains, or in warm climates.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Because of their size and strength, they have a distinct advantage in hunting, in that they can wrangle larger prey with their bare hands.

Biological Cycle

Around winter time their fur coat becomes exceedingly thick, and once spring begins they begin to shed their fur, losing more and more as summer rolls around.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Most Dionysian societies value the strong over the weak, and thus it is a constant bloody struggle, one Dionysian trampling over another to gain a foothold in the political hierarchy. This is how most men become kings in the Dionysian world, with the oldest houses being those that prove to breed the bloodiest fighters.

Domestication

Factoring in their size and strength, many slave owners need strong chains, and impenetrable holding cells. That, and when they need to be supervised and punished, strong guns, and many men are needed., as they're prone to violence, and hard to control when on a rampage. Because of this, Dionysians are expensive to own, and they make up less than half of a slave owner's populace.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

They are commonly used for heavy work, like building stone structures, digging canals, and lugging large loads.

Facial characteristics

Their faces are very goat like, and this includes their ears, and their eyes.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

They can be found in most parts of the world, given that most modern day inhabitants are the descendants of slaves. In fact, Dionysian slaves still persist as a commodity.

Average Intelligence

Given the squalid state of Tern-Meron, and how harshly they're treated as slaves, many of them are given a poor education. This excludes the children of former slaves, who receive whatever quality of education is afforded by the country they grew up in.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Dionysian children are given their mothers maiden name as a middle name, or if the mother died during child birth, then the father's first name as their middle name. Children born as slaves, or any Dionysian sold into slavery, will have their last name changed to the last name of their slave owner, and our given a first name based on the wishes of the slave owner. In addition, the last name goes first, as who your family is means a lot in dionysian culture.

Major Organizations

Temple of Dionysus, The blood hunters, and the sword of dissonance.

Beauty Ideals

Women are expected to file down their horns, men grow out their hair and twist them into braids, and both men and women wear several gold ear rings.

Gender Ideals

None, it's survival of the fittest, and thus only strength, not gender, matters for who's in charge.

Courtship Ideals

traditional marriage doesn't matter, for even if you get married, it's not uncommon to kidnap and subjugate a bride, and many married men find themselves single again often. Men can either kidnap, or try to win their wife back, and it's a fight to the death.

Relationship Ideals

The family is highly valued, for without heirs you're left with nothing when you die, and thus all that matters in a marriage is having kids.

Average Technological Level

Guns, ships, and break neck chains.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Dionysiac, and the three dialects include: Tern-Meric, Solvic, and Verten.

Common Etiquette Rules

Amongst themselves there's much infighting, but amongst those they see as political or financial tools to exploit, they try to butter up to their guest in any way they can.

Common Dress Code

Many of the citizens wear modern clothing, though in poorer regions (such as Tern-Meron) the clothes are dirty and ragged. Higher ranking or richer citizens wear tailored suits, and those in office will wear Epaulette's, and medals from their military service.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

It is a culture based on the philosophy of dog eat dog, and hedonistic living, a heritage stemming from their troubled past, which has corrupted their original fun loving nature. Furthermore, they are a society that holds those in power with respect, and that the power of those in government is to be cherished, and all resources are to be given to the state.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

It is not uncommon to enslave the weakest and the poorest among them, and there's a yearly celebration of drinking and partying, in honor of the God that created them. Surprisingly, despite their take all culture, there's also a day dedicated to paying debts, and making amends with those you've wronged, and outside of this it's not uncommon to give financial aid and support to those who're failing in someway.

Common Taboos

to show or admit weakness, but in other countries the opposite is true, for it's considered taboo to boast, and even to own or enslave others.

Historical Figures

Black Braun, Dave Idle, Bormis Thregg.

Common Myths and Legends

One day Dionysus will overthrow the shackles strangling his people, or, in the more strong man countries, he'll lift up the strong and imprison the weak. It's worth noting that there are some legends that run away slaves have seen Dionysus while on the road, and that he was responsible for the death of Black Braun.
