Purpose

The letter was written as a plea to Eastern and Southern Juelmeisterkin to reunite.

The letter tries to tug at the heart strings of the Meisterkin, by calling to mind the deeds of past heroes of Juelmeisterkin, referencing prose such as "The Ballad of Zaffrigate", and "The Tears of Ser William the Golden."

Publication Status

Copies of the document can be found at Juelmeisterkin's hall of records, and even schools and city halls throughout Juelmeisterkin have copies of the letter. The original is housed in a museum, framed in glass.

Historical Details

Background

In the year 1820, king Stanley Golfiel was amassing an army to start the Third Campaign. Seeing the tide that was coming, and hearing troubling rumors that Scyllica would do nothing to help, Hans Clausterdale wrote to Eastern and Northern Juelmeisterkin--the country had split to east, south, and north in the age of unrest--pleading for them to unite, and defend themselves from another razing by Torland.

History

The stirring words were successful in reuniting the fractured country of Juelmeisterkin, and is commonly recited on the holiday know as "The Day of Mending."

Public Reaction

This document holds a special place in the hearts of many Meisterkin, and given how it stirs at the heart strings with its allusions to classic literature, and Juelmeisterkin's own past, it is no wonder that the Meisterkin were called to action to defend their homeland from Torland.

Legacy

Though their might have been other factors at play, this call to arms is the single most important factory in uniting Juelmeisterkin, and thus is the single most important factor in the countries victory over Torland.

A Plea for Reunion

My brothers of the east, and sisters of the north, I beseech thee. There are troubling rumors in the west, a terror is coming. A terror that carries the banner of Torland, a terror by the name of Stanley Golfiel, its usurper king. Already he has reclaimed lands that his forefathers once stomped under their iron heel, lands that had known only peace and freedom from Torland's thumb. Will this too be our fate? We are fractured, and I fear we aren't as strong as we once were. And unfortunately, our old allies the Scyllics, will not help. They have become more self sustaining in the intervening years since the Second Campaign, and have no stake in our loss or victory. In fact--again more rumors, but ones I can't ignore--they have more to gain by standing idly by, as Torland ravages our land, and enslave us under their yoke. We our a proud people, with countless heroes preceding us, and some of us even carry their names. We can't let their legacy go to waste their brothers. Think of Zaffrigate, how she strove with her own brother to bring him down from his throne of broken backs and twisted necks. Should we let the kingdom she worked so hard to preserve fall the hands of these Torvic savages, who claim to be decent men and women? I think to the song of William the Golden: "and he saw that all his struggles were for naught, and in place of friends and neighbors there were only ashes, and burnt ruins in place of hovels and hearths. Thus saddened, he fell to his knees weeping, but no succor did he receive, and the earth only drank greedily from his sorrow." Brothers and sisters, let not William the Golden weep anymore, and if we are to fall, let us fall as one, and leave a legacy on the world as a nation that stood together for their home.
