Enwell

Enwell is the oldest city in Nortunem. Founded by nomadic tribes of the first people roughly 2000nl, spread by only word of mouth, the exact date can not be pin-pointed. What was once a properly kept city in its prime, moss and vines cover buildings, paths are broken and muddied. Smells of rotting wood and fresh moss cover the air. Besides the new maintained outer wall, every building seems to almost sag showing the age of the entire city. What Enwell lacks in imagery, it makes up in culture and wisdom. Home to the largest athenaeum, scribes and clerics from around the world travel here to study.

Government

Laws

Enwells strong belief in the god Norosk has criminals atone for their sins by whippings, torture, walks of shame, and hangings. The greater the crime, the greater the punishment.

Whippings

Criminals are sentenced to twenty four hours in jail, twelve of which are spent atoning.

Torture

There are many variations of torture one can endure. any of which can last between hours to years. Depending on the severity of the crime.

Walks of Shame

The walk of shame is one of the most humiliating and painful punishments one can experience. Those who are unlucky enough to have it bestowed upon them are first branded on the neck with the upside down symbol of Norosk, signifying they participated in the walk. Freshly branded, they must walk from the southern gate all the way to the castle gates, while inhabitants can do whatever they please to them. (besides killing) If the criminal falls to a knee, or cannot finish the walk in anyway, they must try again the following day until they either die of exhaustion or old age. It is rare to see, but many walks of shame have been finished.

Taxation

Inhabitants living within the walls are taxed 350Valich/week, while the shantytown outside of the main city is taxed 50Valich/week

Industry & Trade

Enwell is a self sufficient machine, keeping trade to a minimum. It has a little bit of everything, being around since the nomadic times, it is basically a kingdom of it's own.

History

Nomadic Life

Starting out as a nomadic temple of sorts, ancient tribes would visit to pray to the god Norosk. Roughly 2000nl, construction of housing and farms first appeared. Being named after the first ruler. A form of monarchy government was established as King Enwell took reign in 2040nl. Nomadic life soon ended, as settlements along the eastern side of Nortunem began to arise. Along with new towns came trade, alliances, and surprisingly a new religion. The King Enwell was an avid Norosk follower, and could not comprehend anything else, thus starting Enwells war. King Enwell the Mad; as he was called, ravaged the country side, demanding loyalty to him and Norosk or death. As it was more of a madman's slaughter than a war, he conquered the eastern side with ease. King Enwell the Mad was later assassinated in his private temple by his own supporters, ending his reign as king, and Norosism as the dominant religion in 2200nl. Enwells War may have only been about bloodshed and tyranny, however it boosted civilization to the Bronze age, new technology was invented, proper living was established, thus bring a new age, ending nl(Norosk Lives) starting nf(Norosk Fell)
