Aenum

Aenum was founded after the death of the elven adventurer Ainum. She frequently made her camp on the cliff overlooking the Plains of Lenia to the east, and the Western Ocean to the west. Eventually more adventurers camped around there as well, which attracted traders, and soon a market sprung up around the campsite. The impromtu town eventually came under scrutiny from surrounding rulers. The citizens defended their new home with ferocity, and in time a ruling council was created, and Aenum was announced as an independent City-State. The claims of where the borders are are still disputed to this day, but Aenum has never lost its independence. The spelling of the city name changed from Ainum to Aenum over the years, and despite official efforts to change it back, the new spelling stuck, also serving as a way to differentiate between the city, and the adventurer who founded it.
