Nobulon

Created by

The world of Nobulon is intended for use as a Dungeons and Dragons campaign setting loosely inspired by the popular roleplaying game Final Fantasy VI, published by Squaresoft (Square Enix). Though this setting is being designed with D&D 5e in mind, it should be possible to use it with any fantasy-based tabletop roleplaying system. Though certain plot elements of the videogame are present, they serve primarily as world-building tools; the direction the story takes will, of course, be determined by the players and the dungeon master.   The world of Nobulon is, in essence, a fantasy setting with some technological elements that could best be described as steampunk. This means that machines such as steam trains, magic powered war machines, and airships exist alongside the more traditional fantasy elements of sorcery, knights, castles and monsters. Some inspiration here, both in mechanics and setting, are drawn from the Eberron campaign setting published by Wizards of the Coast.   Nobulon, like any good fantasy campaign setting, is a world in conflict. The primary source of that conflict is an Empire possessing advanced magical technology that has been aggressively expanding its reach in recent decades. Many realms and regions have already fallen to the seemingly unmatched technological might of the Empire, though the source of their previously unimaginable power is a mystery to the world at large.   Though the Empire and its advanced war machines can serve as a primary antagonist to a group of heroes, this need not be the case; the Empire serves mostly to create the tension and conflict that makes a campaign setting more dynamic, and to allow context for the state of the world and its political powers. The players and dungeon master have the final word on what sort of campaign will unfold, Nobulon is simply one possible setting.   Thank you for looking over Nobulon, and I hope you enjoy exploring it as much as I enjoy creating it.
