Nithos

Nithos is a world defined by the interference of powerful immortal beings, that are worshiped as gods, in the affairs of mortals. The people Nithos rarely have access to iron tools and bronze tools are fairly common. So in order to survive the inhuman perils of Nithos the humans must rely on the benevolence of their gods. Daily life is a struggle between doing your duty to your fellow mortals and appeasing your chosen god. Failing either of those tasks could end in disaster. Almost every generation at least two gods will begin a dispute and instead of dealing with it inside of their own heavenly realm they choose mortals to be their champions. The resolution of these conflicts are almost never straightforward and can involve many more people than the champions themselves. Regardless of the task, or tasks, if you are selected as a champion it is guaranteed that you will be remembered as a great hero or as a great villain. While humans are by far the most common beings that exist in Nithos their legend's tell of many great and terrifying beings the used to inhabit the lands they now control. To find these beings you now must travel to dangerous and forgotten places that humans either abandoned or have refused to invade. Few humans have ever been to these places, even fewer have returned and the stories they have brought back ensures that almost none will follow in their footsteps.
