Orc
The Orcs are a powerful and tough race. Originally from the desert known as the Great Wastes, they are extremely hardy and adaptable, allowing them to travel anywhere with little need for adjustment. In the Dark Era they fought constant civil wars over blood oaths and minor slights. This changed when the Empire encroached upon their claimed land. Unified by a common threat, they proved an incredibly effective and brutal fighting force. The ensuing war cost the Empire hundreds of their precious and powerful @[Warforged] until one final battle determined the fate of an entire race, as is often the case.
Little is known about what exactly happened over two millennia ago in the Great Wastes. What is known is this: The orcs were still large in number and, although lightly armored, they threw themselves into battle with reckless abandon. Against the endless tide of green stood the remaining number of Warforged led by the fabled and ancient Order of the Dragon Knights, dragonborn nobility sworn to protect and expand the Empire. These fierce knights led the charge and the battle was bloody. Just when the Orcs believed their Gods have given them the upper hand, the leader of the Dragon Knights was slain. Though instead of his life flowing from his body, it floated into the air glowing as bright as a star. From his armored fingers, light shot through the Orc masses, causing every other orc to explode in a bright and fiery death. With half of their army instantly disintegrated, the orcs fled and the next day surrendered. From the location where the leader of the Dragon Knights was slain, liquid water burst from the ground like that of a ruptured artery and an oasis took its place.
They believed that the Empire's Goddess had killed theirs, and that this display of power was how Kaiteron communicated his victory against the savage deities. Following the stronger God seemed like common sense from that point on and the Orcs were pleased when the Empire offered their services as warriors. They followed their great leader, Sumak, wisest and strongest among the then-savages into a binding oath of service and faith. The location of this oath was henceforth known as Sumak Ergot, or Sumak's oath, in the old orcish tongue.
They had plenty of people to fight and over the centuries were given special conditioning about honor and purpose. Filled with a clear and designated purpose, the orcs have grown to be an incredibly organized and brutal fighting force with unquestionable loyalty to the Empress, the Empires ideals and citizens. So much so that no orc has ever betrayed the Empire in the history of their service, for to do so would surely result in not just death, but worse: dishonor.
