Eidola Kingdom

An Eidolon is any organism made of or entirely powered by magical energies. It is a highly diverse kingdom of organisms, which take forms that range from physical to ethereal, microscopic to gigantic, and familiar to strange. They are multicelluar, and magiheterotrophs- that is, they cannot produce their own food and instead take in nutrients from magical sources, such as kana. Most Eidola are invisible to the naked eye, while others generate, collect, or possess matter to give themselves a physical form. Most species are incapable of interacting with their physical environment without the use of magic or the possession of objects.

Characteristics

Eidola are defined as a nonsolid multi-cellular life form. They do not require water or air to function, and instead survive by the consumption of magical energies. Most are motile, often using magic as a form of propulsion if they lack limbs, while some species are sessile. All Eidolon are invisible to the naked eye unless they exert enough energy to alter this state, though they are always visible in the Realm of Veils and to beings who can see it. Interestingly, Eidola generate a body temperature that can be felt whether or not they are visible.

Structure

The cells that compose Eidolon are loosely connected and they possess the unique trait of a magnetic-like quality. If an Eidolon's cells are removed from its body, then the cells will be drawn back to the Eidolon's body. This loose structure of cells allows many Eidola to 'slip' through matter like water through sand. In reverse, a Eidolon's cellular structure can tighten and strengthen and become as solid as other life forms, though most species can only achieve this by expending large amounts of energy. As a norm, their cells posses an almost non-newtonian fluid esque quality.

Reproduction

The Eidola Kingdom as a whole requires a source of strong magical energies to reproduce. How reproduction is achieved vary by the clade. Vampires convert the souls of their victims into another vampire, for example. While Elementals are born directly from bursts of magic under the right conditions. Souls are born from the magical energies inside of the bodies of organisms from other kingdoms; especially those of the animal kingdom and are fused with their so called hosts. And lastly, Spirits generate another of their kind after collecting enough magic. Interestingly, it is possible for man-made Eidola to exist, which are named constructs.

Diversity

Eidola have adapted a vast amount of qualities for many different environments. They take on many different forms that can range in size from to size of two blue whales, to the size of a human's thumbtip. Eidola can be found all over the globe, from the deepest of caves, to the thinnest atmosphere of the planet, but they are most often attracted to places with magic concentration because of their diet.

Ecology

All Eidola are kanavores, and they have adapted in a vast number of ways to obtain magical energies for their food source, Some will parasitize other Eidolon or magically strong life forms for their magic, while others may have the ability to siphon magic from their environment itself. And then some may require specific conditions to be met in order to feed. Eidolon may specialize in luring prey before killing them and consuming what kana they can from the corpse. Others may simply float around, feeding off of the magic in their environment, much like plankton.
Many Eidolon are inconspicuous or harmless, while others pose a threat as pests or even huge threats that endanger life around them. Their adaptions to live across the globe in a vast amount of ways have made them an extremely diverse class of life that has baffled the sapient species for ages.
