Background

If you live in Gothamopolis, Rebecca Charleston's family is kind of a big deal. Her dad, Garth Charleston, is a live reporter for the Gothamopolis News Network. Her mom, Andrea Charleston, is a writer for the Gothamopolis Herald, the local newspaper. And finally, her brother, Xavier Charleston, is a disabilities advocate. Due to her family's jobs, Rebecca decided to be a reporter for her school newspaper. However, she would undergo a drastic career change one fine spring day.

During an interview with superscientist Robert Vulcan, The Corps showed up and started wrecking the lab. During the chaos, Number 6 knocked over a rack of chemicals onto Rebecca.

At first, Rebecca felt normal. But then, she felt a twinge in her stomach. The twinge quickly grew into pain, and then her stomach expanded outwards. Then, the rest of her torso began bulging. Rebecca was confused, until she realized she was becoming lighter. It was then that it hit her. She was blowing up like a balloon!

After getting stuck on the ceiling for the rest of the fight, the Junior Supes of Gothamopolis were called in and managed to get her down. Much to Rebecca's relief, she found out she could deflate herself. Research showed she had been exposed to mutagen containing Kalishari DNA, and as such, had developed an Kalishari inflationary system. This meant not only could she expand like a balloon, she could also control the density of the gas inside her.

After a much-needed confidence boost from her brother, Rebecca realized she could become a superhero and took on the name “Human Balloon”.

Personality

Rebecca is a bit of a contradiction. When you first meet her, she comes off as not very confident, worrying about what other people think about her powers. However, when a villain attacks, she quickly gains confidence and fights off villains with her ribcage bash. She loves her brother and often attends his speeches and wheelchair races.

Powers

Rebecca has the ability to inflate her body into a six-foot-wide sphere full of gas. She can change the density of this gas, and, as such, can fly like a blimp with a low density, bounce like a rubber ball with a medium density, or crush her foes like a wrecking ball with a high density. Her inflated form is also resistant to blunt trauma.

Appearance

Rebecca is a 5'3” white girl with brown eyes and short ringlets of curly black hair. Her body's nothing to look at, until she inflates her torso to become as round as a ball. She wears a white latex bodysuit with a light gray oval on it at all times, due to the fact that it's the only thing that doesn't tear when she inflates.
