Newground

Picture this. European areas have always been the backdrop for the fantastical fairy tales we all know and love. Many things about most classic fantasy stories feel distinctly European - legends of knights and dragons may come to mind. But I dare to ask: what if the citizens of a traditional European-style fantasy setting were the ones that found a new continent on the other side of the world? What if knights and wizards were the ones colonizing a fantastical North America? That's essentially what the fantastical continent 'Newground' is -- a North-America-style response to classic medieval fantasy's Europe. Basically, with this idea for a world, I'm asking the question: what if events such as the pilgrimage and the Great Awakening happened in the fantastical alternative universe you'd read about in a fairy tale?

Geography

The area of the continent of Newground that is currently being colonized is one that is, for the most part, populated by grassy plains and mountainous terrain. There are many pristine freshwater lakes and flowing rivers that run through the land. There's also some forests here and there.
The colonizers have taken a liking to the land of Newground, as there are many places for them to settle, and the soil below them is ripe for the growth of crops, perhaps more so than they could've ever expected.

Fauna & Flora

Plants
The forests are generally populated by seas of oak trees, the ground below lavishly decorated with vegetation such as mosses and bushes of various types. Some hills are lucky enough to be garnished by some of the most beautiful, most colorful, most unique wild flowers ever seen by the human eye.
Creatures
Wildlife common in this newfound continent include (but is certainly not limited to) deer, beavers, and bears, while the settlers have brought in cattle such as cows, hogs, horses, and poultry. Fantastical creatures include giant bugs such as spiders, goblins, and a mysterious breed of dragon said to be native to the continent of Newground. Rumors of more menacing creatures are passed around by the settlers, though such rumors have yet to be confirmed.

Natural Resources

Wood is the primary natural resource, while many of the stones found near the caves and mountains can be forged into various types of materials by blacksmiths.
