The Liver Bird (legend)

Summary

Atop the two towers of the Liver Building stand two grotesque stone statues of the Liver birds, the winged beast found on the city crest. An old legend claims that were the birds to take flight, the banks of the River Mersey would burst and swallow the city of Liverpool.
