Table/House Rules
General Table Rules
- Be respectful of each other. We are all here to have fun. If you are ever uncomfortable for any reason, please let the DM know.
- Limit out-of-game chatter during the session.
- 1.5-2 hrs into the session we will take a 10 min break, please remind me if I forget or you would like a break.
- Please be patient and do not distract other players or the Dungeon Master.
- Be constructive with other players. Never belittle other players for their choices. The first rule of improv is to always say “Yes, and…”
- Limit the use of your mobile phone during the game and generally pay attention, especially during combat.
- I would highly recommend taking notes for this campaign. I can’t force you, but at least noting names, locations, and general story will be helpful to you.
- Limit metagaming. While YOU may know an awakened shrub is resistant to piercing damage, your character may not.
- Ask to make ability checks, don’t just start rolling dice.
Game Rules
- Using inspiration allows a re-roll on ability checks, attack rolls, or saving throws instead of advantage.
- Rolling a Nat 20 on initiative gives advantage to first action. Nat 1 initiative results in disadvantage.
- DM rolls death saving throws in secret. Adds suspense, you wouldn't know this IRL.
- No murder hobo-ing. This is not an evil campaign.
- Stealth checks are only rolled when there is a possibility of detection. Otherwise it doesn’t really matter.
- Critical hits deal MAX DAMAGE + damage dice rolled + damage bonus. It’s a crit, you earned fuck-you damage.
- A hit can be turned into a critical hit, but the attacker takes 2 levels of exhaustion. Can only be used when current exhaustion level is 0 (2 long rests to regain). (Speed halved and disadvantage on ability checks)
- If the insult said while casting Vicious Mockery makes the DM laugh, it automatically succeeds. You earned it.
Safety Tools
- Open Table Policy - If for any reason you are uncomfortable or need to leave, you can do so no questions asked.
- SKIP, REWIND, and BREAK - During a session, you can say skip to jump past a scene and not linger on it. Say rewind to move backwards to amend an unwanted story element. Break means we need to take a break.
- After session debriefs - Feel free to talk with me any time about the content of our sessions. Anything we discuss will be kept between us.
