Cheepskate

Cheepskate is a card game usually found in pubs all around new caledonia. Its main feature is that the cards are so flimsy, you can almost read them from the back.   The main rule of the game is to not pay money as it's usually played in such a way that the loser(s) of the game have to pay the next round (or five). It is played with a deck of regular cards - 52, no jokers.   Every player holds five cards.   If you have a face card and the discard pile is empty, put a face card in there, face down. Everybody else can try to check it, flipping the card over. If it is a face card, they have to draw two cards and wait for their turn. If it wasn't a face card, you take your card back and get two more cards.   If you don't want or can't play a face card, you can put a number card in the discard pile face up, if it is empty. If it isn't empty, you can bet your card against the card already in the pile. Face cards do not count, as they are "put in the dirt". Your card must be of higher or equal value to the card in the discard pile. Value is both the printed value and the suit, with the ranking from bottom to top being Spades, Clubs, Hearts, Diamonds - which differs from very traditional games in which hearts trumps. If your card is of a better suit, any value is accepted. The player that plays the 10 of Diamonds may sound superior, yet by playing a 2 of Spades, you can turn the game around and allow for a new rise to the top.   The player who, when one player has no more cards in their hands and finishes, has the lowest cards (largest amount of spades for example) loses the game.
