Blood Proving

How orcs become well respected fighters, conducted in a fighting ring. This is essentially puberty for orcs, and while this doesn't necessarily mean they will work with the Orc Gangsters, they may get a recruitment card.

History

Even before the Doom, young orcs needed to prove themselves. The only difference is the increasing pointlessness, because no matter how many orcs you beat up you can't stop bullets.
It led to many of the greatest orc chiefs in history.
Originally the orcs had to kill 3 members of their class in what amounted to a battle royale. Nowadays they just have to beat 3 orcs in a fistfight, leading to a lot less orc deaths.

Execution

A young orc (typically 12-14 years old) enters the fighting ring and wait for challengers to approach. These challengers are either other young orcs who want to prove themselves, or elderly orcs who still want to serve their clan.
They then fight, the only rule being that they can't use weapons. Since orcs are resiliant, usually blood is drawn before they go down for good.
This ritual is meant to insure that only the strongest orcs continue in the world, proven by Gruumsh, who gave strength to their arm.

Components and tools

A fighting ring, otherwise adult orcs may intimidate a market street empty to have them fight.
So long as there is a good fighting ring and at least 4 orcs, the ritual can get going.

Participants

It is traditional for the parents to not attend the fight, the orc child being in a limbo state between banishment and adulthood.
Otherwise any orcs can attend, and they aren't too fond of people barging in on their ancient ceremonies.

Observance

Occurs three times each year.
They don't have set dates, but to get enough warriors they need three provings. These can be months away or literally 3 days in a row, but three days. No more, no less.
