Urivale

Urivale is the most northern sovereignty of the human lands, and therefore has the harshest climates. They share their boarder with the Dwaven part of the Alliance. They own many of the mountains on their side of the boarder and often trade minerals with the Dwarves. Their current ruling house is House Pearce, whose seat is the castle of Wintersheath. Most of their economy is reliant on the trade of precious gems with the other kingdoms and species, particularly the Dwarves. As such, Urivale tends to side with the Dwaven lands in political debates. It was founded by Charles’s eldest son, Christius, who chose the lands in the hope of filling his coffers with precious gems and turning the dwarves against his siblings. The current ruler of Urivale is the elderly King Alfred Pearce, who has been forced by age and sickness to delegate much of his responsibilities to his chief councillor; his brother, Earl Geoffrey Pierce. Their motto is “Strong in all seasons”.

History

Originally part of the lands conquered by Robert the Forger, Urivale became an independent Sovereignty when Robert's grandson Charles split the lands of his grandfather between his five children. Urivale was the chosen seat of his eldest son, King Christius.

Military

Each of the five sovereignties has its own army, each a mix of professional soldiers, locally sourced militia and aristocratic knights. Urivale's militia is in the majority made up of cavalry; Urivale is famous for its horse breeding, and posesses the superior cavalry out of the five sovereignties, with most of the elite cavalry coming from this nation.   The rest of the Urivale militia consists of a force of anchored men at arms armed with pikes and halberds, supported by leagues of crossbowmen and foot soldiers recruited from the populace.

Religion

Like the rest of the Human Lands, the official religion of Urivale is the Temporal Church.

Foreign Relations

Urivale is one of the five Sovereignties of the Human Lands, and a member of the Alliance of Five. As a result Urivale enjoys a privileged alliance with the other members of the Alliance; trade benefits and a communal food pot between the nations in case of famine or emergency, free travel between nations, etc.   Urivale is probably the third most powerful currently of the five sovereignties among the Human Lands.   Urivale shares its northernmost border with the Dwarven Lands, and the two nations share a particular trade in precious gems. Urivale is rich in precious gems, and Dwarven craftsmanship is in high demand, and Urivale will often sell its precious gems to the Dwarven Lands at a discounted rate, and in return the Dwarves give a similar discount to any items these gems are used in when selling them back to Urivale.

Agriculture & Industry

As a feudal nation Urivale is primarily agriculturally focused, with wheat, barley and oats being the most common crops. Their most common livestock is cattle.   In terms of raw materials Urivale's most valuable resource is precious gems, with lumber also being a prime resource.   Urivale is also known for the breeding of pedigree horses, for work, warfare and leisure.

Trade & Transport

As a member of The Alliance, Urivale is able to conduct prime trade with the other member states in return for contributing resources into a communal pot to be distributed to the members of The Alliance who need it.

Major Exports
  • Precious gems; their lands have large mines filled with diamonds, rubies and emerald. Urivale rubies in particular are considered some of the best in Pangea, with noble women all over the continent prizing jewellery with Urivale rubies as a status symbol of the highest order. For this reason, the people of Urivale have excellent trading relationships with their neighbours in the Dwaven lands. They often trade their gems to the Dwarves at a discounted rate, in return for their own discount on the products that the dwarves make from these gems.
