Undead Virus

The Undead Virus is the name of the curse set by the gods on humans after they received Herobrine's help to take down The Barrier.

Transmission & Vectors

The virus that affects humans is hereditary as it is a curse set on all Steve descendants, once they die the corpse will be reanimated and will come out of the ground that same night.

For villagers the virus can be transmitted via blood contact.

For Piglins, the virus is airborne and they will turn after a couple minutes of breathing the Overworld air.

Symptoms

Humans are infected all their life but are asymptomatic, meaning they live their life without problems and are only reanimated once they die.

For villagers and pigeons that get infected they will start feeling as if they had a flu, shaking lightly at first but getting more violent as time goes on, cold body and coughing. Once the infection takes over they will get violent against living specimens.

Treatment

The only species with a known cure are villagers.

In order to cure them they will be debilitated and forcefully fed a golden apple, after that the undead will slowly get less aggressive over time until eventually collapsing. A couple hours later the cured villager will wake up confused.

Depending on how long they were infected some therapy will be needed.

There was an attempted cure developed by Umv16Uli but it was later turned into a biologic weapon

Prevention

The only known way to avoid conversion in humans is the Royal Burial Ritual.

History

The virus was set down upon humans after the Fall of The Barrier by Notch himself after finding out Steve had contacted Herobrine to get a Command Block. Once Notch found out he cursed Steve and all of his descendants to be reanimated once they have died.

No one knows who was the first infected but it's known the curse also worked on already previously dead individuals as Legacya was the first area to report infected.

The curse was investigated expensively in New Eden to try and develop a cure on humans and Umv16Uli got the closest to achieving it, secretly keeping a Nether portal open after supposedly sealing the Nether since the First Overworld War and stealing resources to reverse engineer a cure.

Unfortunately the Piglins found out about the portal so they opened one on their side and launched a full scale assault on New Eden. In order to stop the Piglins from carrying out another war, Umv16Uli sacrificed himself and the cure to make it infect Piglins, making it impossible for them to breathe in the Overworld.

Cultural Reception

Humans had to mold their civilization around the existence of the Undead, securing their cities and not allowing to bury people close by.

In New Eden, the Royal Family made it mandatory to every member to own and wear a mask publicly so they could have a public burial once they died, since the Royal Burial Ritual deflated the head of the deceased once performed. So they would be buried with the mask and not show the deflated head.
