Vedrfol (ved-er-fole)

Mortals of long ago, forgotten by the tides...

Lord Vedrfol Ahn (a.k.a. Ved)

Crimson hair flowed behind them as they stared at the sight in front of them, a seven-eyed beast with empty eyes glaring right back. They shivered in their spot, heart pounding, anxiety bubbling up quite a lot. Not a breeze blew by nor anything bothering to obscure the creature in front of them, but the stars gleamed in the background like specks of foam on dark waters. Vedrfol wanted to stand by Them; they yearned for Their hand. However, they projected their own desires of what they expected their Maker to embody onto Them. The truth hovered above them, stark and unwavering.   The days afterward, the image of the seven-eyed beast never dissipated from their head. Vedrfol, trying to sleep, thought only of the beast and not of the one they sought love from. They wanted a kiss, but in turn, those pupils drilled their way into his throat and left them wordless. No words existed for how else Vedrfol could describe the sight. To walk alongside Them, not as a faithful ally but as Their one and only... it was a dream. The dream turned into a nightmare as they tossed and turned in bed. Retribution built up for days as Vedrfol hardly respected Their boundaries, but the Creator Themself held no bitterness. Only, it seemed since the red-haired enby refused help for themself and made no attempt to seek the companionship of someone else, the Creator needed to show them what they would be in for...   A tale spread down throughout the ages, jested about in children's tales in the Riavelon League or spoken of grimly in the upper-echelons of the Theocracy of Koyo, its popularity remained steadfast. Although associated with their deeds during the Age of Darkness, forever would the people know Vedrfol as the mortal who wished for more than they could handle. A warning sign to those younger, it told them too much proves harmful in the long run. The elders associated it with never disrespecting friends for their personal choices. In the end, Vedrfol was spurned, and as revenge, they lied about Their messages.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Vedrfol, thin as they are, could be blown over by the slightest gust of wind. They prioritized agility over anything else, not a single muscle noticeable in their form.

Body Features

Their forearms and calves were pinkish-gray, talons black.

Facial Features

Well-defined red eyebrows framed their warm, pink eyes. Reddish and orange-ish splotches marked their forehead and the outer corners of their eyes. With a flat bridge, their nose itself appeared rounded and small. Lips, so thin one could miss them entirely, took on a rosy hue. Sharp teeth contrasted against the roundness of their face.

Identifying Characteristics

They harbored a piercing stare noted by their followers.

Special abilities

Vedrfol harnessed the power of viewing others' memories by dreaming, allowing them to peer into the lives of possible circlet candidates and letting them figure out who would be the best suited to the job.

Apparel & Accessories

They wore a teal hanbok made for the highest of nobility with a suitable hat to boot. In artistic depictions, no one bothers to deviate from the norms, never showing them in different apparel. Like most saeols back then, they went barefoot, talons too sharp to fit into shoes.

Specialized Equipment

Some claim Vedrfol once wielded a book capable of the process of magic, allowing them to bypass the limits of mortal ability. Wherever this book has gone, no one is certain. They also wielded the Nio Charm, a relic capable of letting the user visit others by dreaming.

Mental characteristics

Gender Identity

Vedrfol, as they come from a time where gender roles and norms were not yet set in stone, does not identify with any particular gender. They do not label themself, although many claim them to be non-binary. Although their hanbok fits masculine individuals more, some state they caught glimpses of them in more feminine hanbok in specific circumstances.

Sexuality

Bisexual

Employment

At first unemployed, they were quickly appointed by the Creator to be the sovereign of the newly-established Koyo region. Not yet a theocracy, Vedrfol made it one due to their undying affection toward the Brightest Light.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Vedrfol successfully led the 5 Crusaders to toppling the Fell God. As an active participant in the battle themself, they worked hard to keep the others alive, considering the brunt force of the Fell God's advances. Unfortunately, Faith passed during the fight, but thanks to the power of her staff Providence, they brought her back to life in the middle of it. The sheer exhaustion afterward put them into a coma, but once they came to, they were met with the light of victory. Although Vedrfol and their Crusaders drifted apart as the years passed, the glory of saving the world from destruction stayed strong in their hearts.

Failures & Embarrassments

Throughout the years, Vedrfol made frequent attempts to earn the Creator's affections. Although They respected Vedrfol and liked them to a degree, their favor soon soured as the decades passed. They accepted their gifts, ranging from bouquets of monad lilies to the finest celadon vases, but they eventually denied them. It soon became evident accepting the gifts gave Vedrfol the idea they were getting somewhere in their attempted courtship. Many times, the Creator tried to push them to get help, like telling them to speak with others about their feelings or to take what would be equivalent to medications in the modern time. Still, they never clung to these habits, even when they married their wife, Justice, who always tried to ensure they continued their treatments. Eventually, once Vedrfol forsook them wholly and the Creator distanced Themself from them entirely, Vedrfol was by themself. Justice, though she loved her spouse with all her heart, was contemplating leaving them but also felt responsible in a way. It all came to an end once their son, Vithofnir, took rule over the clan. This allowed them to get the help they needed and stick with it.

Mental Trauma

Once they saw the Creator's true form, it burned itself permanently into the recesses of Vedrfol's mind in a negative fashion. As they tried to cloud out the memory, it always came rushing back to them. Such a memory managed to be removed by Alternity herself, but Vedrfol was never the same. They started fearing the sensations accompanying these visions and took steps to avoid triggering them at all costs. Locking themself up during cloudless nights, they slept early and awoke late, not wanting to view the stars in any form.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

What mainly motivated them back in the day was having their love reciprocated by their Creator. To know Them deeply, this meant everything to Vedrfol. They led the Theocracy of Koyo in Their name, gathered the 5 Crusaders as per Their wishes, and gave the people hope according to Their orders. However, once rebuffed and left to contemplate their life's decisions, all Vedrfol wished for was to be happy. Gripped with bitterness, they established Monadism as a warped representation of the Creator's values. Eventually, from Monadism stemmed Triadism, differing in a few key ways but still incorrectly depicting the ideas spread by divinity. Yet, in their search for happiness, they soon realized continuing to pursue an unachievable goal damaged them more-so than helped them. This revelation forced them to reconsider their actions in the past and to hide away from the public to work on themself. Those close to them in their final days stated they were the happiest one could ever feel.

Virtues & Personality perks

Back when they led the five Crusaders across the world and toward the Fell God, their confidence, unwavering, gave others someone to admire. They stood as a beacon of hope to the rest of mortalkind, not faltering in the face of imminent death. Although the death toll from the Fell God's destruction rose to high numbers, still, with the First Mortal at the front, many clung to their prayers. He achieved their wishes, ridding the world of the Fell God alongside his crew. Many also liked their social nature, as Vedrfol had many jokes to tell to lighten the mood.   Other than those two traits, their optimism never failed anyone. Their intensity, although especially troublesome in the future, proved vital to the rule of the early Theocracy of Koyo and to their people.

Vices & Personality flaws

Their most character-defining vice is their inability to accept their Creator's rejection of their advances. Always turning to bad coping mechanism and to lies, they started alienating themself from the rest of their family and especially to their wife by continuing to ramble on about them. Even when confessing their innermost thoughts to the priests below them, no marked improvement was made in their mental health. They resorted to apothecary's potions to manage it, and although they improved markedly, they eventually eschewed it entirely despite the recommendations of those watching over them. One cannot force someone else to get help, after all.   Other than that, their sycophancy was another one of their great flaws. They hardly listened to reason from others, and their stubbornness proved more troublesome than useful in most circumstances.

Hygiene

Unfortunately, Vedrfol failed in the brushing department, as their teeth were quite yellow upon inspection of their body. Albeit, as they had died due to natural causes, cleaning their teeth in an avian form proves more difficult than multiple tasks. However, they failed to clean their talons as well, truly making their hygiene questionable.

Social

Reign

They ruled for about 2200 years before being replaced by their son, Vithofnir.

Religious Views

Vedrfol was the founder of what would be known as Monadism in current Neegavia. After facing the true form of the Creator and subsequently experiencing the lives of those who had failed to bring order, their love for their Creator remained strong but a newfound terror filled their soul. Once They stopped blessing the mortal realm with Their presence, Vedrfol took it upon themself to make a set of guidelines for everyone to follow. Fabricating a tale about how they came to know the commandments from the Creator's words themselves, they inserted their personal beliefs to no one's knowledge. Samael, catching wind of it, chose not to say anything due to seeing nothing wrong with the commandments themselves. However, with one rule being one could not wed outside of their species, Vedrfol's prejudices were now codified as religious law.   Such a prejudice came from their rejection at the Creator's hands, twisting it into a message about how the divine and secular could not be together. They, in turn, transformed the notion into one of signifying how the species themselves should stay clean of others' influences. Vedrfol claimed this due to needing to keep the individual strengths of each species.

Social Aptitude

Vedrfol, by themself, proved not too charismatic. Many, in actuality, thought them rather annoying with their high-pitched voice and incessant ramblings about their feelings for the Creator, and those who sought to help them faced a wall in their attempts. However, in texts discussing them in recent times, most exaggerate their charm and discuss at length how they single-handedly convinced the five crusaders to band together and bring down the Fell God. Back in the day, they favored others' praise over anything else, their ego high. They never wavered in confidence until the day they faced the seven-eyed beast, in which they took a sizeable blow to their willpower. Ever since then, they were never the same, meek in personality and uncertain in actions. Their ego also shrank as they could no longer claim they were the only one worthy of the Creator's affections.   Always the extrovert, they always struck up conversations with as many people as they could find. However, despite befriending these people at first, they then later pushed them away by disrespecting them verbally ("Say, you have not brushed lately, Justice!"). They prided themself on etiquette but never on social manners, thinking themself to be above them. In fact, if Vedrfol ever criticized you, they justified by saying you were at least worth their time.

Hobbies & Pets

Vedrfol was a writer back in their time, not surprising consider they were the one who wrote the basis for the Scripture. In the midst of all this,

Speech

They took on a more light-hearted tone but paired it with more formal language, befitting their position as the head of the Ahn clan. To others, Vedrfol came across as irreverent. When first meeting others, they acted respectfully, but the longer they knew a person, the less kindly he treated them. Finally, they were mostly enthusiastic about their life. Preferring not to dwell on the sadder aspects of a situation, they liked to talk about the positives. Always seeming excited despite the circumstances, the 5 Crusaders, in particular, thought their behavior was infectious. People quote Tempest saying, "Although they're bizarre, it's not bad. In fact, out of all us, they're probably the one keeping us together."   Their pitch was deeper than one might have expected. It certainly caught Faith Ming, Crusader of Joy, off-guard. They had a strong Koyan accent in whatever language they spoke. When greeting others, they always said, "Hello!" and when bidding goodbye, "Good day." Whenever Vedrfol had the chance, they spiced up their speech with a variety of metaphors to better illustrate their plans to others. They seldom swore, and every time they did, they immediately asked for forgiveness from the Creator.

Wealth & Financial state

Vedrfol, high classed as they are, had a variety of things available to them. They owned several estates across Koyo alongside the main noble house itself, and they managed some businesses like food transferal and the postal service. In turn, their declining mental health and decision to not seek help for themself landed them into a lot of debt, causing their favor to fall within the country. This, in turn, led to Samael taking rule of the Theocracy much more easily.
