Plot points/Scenes

This chapter began with Sirius Volsung, Philotes Kynigos, Advike Nolvandr, and Smoothie Thiafli all seated in a classroom, waiting to graduate. Professor Shah, a shared professor between all four of them, brought the former Freedom Fighter Althis Baldaar to speak to everyone. Althis gave the class words of encouragement for their impending graduation, and after this, the students were left to talk with each other on their own devices. Sirius, in particular, was extremely nervous about the whole ordeal while Philotes was calmer about it. Smoothie, although anxious herself, masked it to look strong in front of Sirius, and Advike was stunned she was graduating to begin with.
Soon enough, the group was summoned out by the Empress of Riavelon herself, Hymn, who had come to send them off herself due to many of the students being relatives of the former Freedom Fighters, a force she led that overthrew the old Emperor about 18 years ago in current time. It was a grand ceremony as each student had something to say for themself, even if their nerves got to them. However, the positive atmosphere soon faded away as the knight Arturia rode in on her bonewolf. She reported a force traveling north of the capital was captured and being held hostage by Serian forces, despite the Empress' attempts at keeping the ordeal a secret. As she worried about what to do, Sirius, who knew his mother was a part of the force, bolted to the south in a hurry. Arturia chased after them while the rest of the gang followed suit. Hymn, on the other hand, was incredibly angry about the whole event and pondered if this was the beginning of war with the Kingdom of Serias.
To shake Arturia off her tracks, Althis took pity on the party and led her astray, soon rejoining them afterward. He was to lead them to what he believed was the area they were being held hostage in, although they would soon encounter their first signs of trouble while traveling down the snowy slopes of Mount Nitum.

Structure

Exposition

This chapter introduced the concept of Nitum University, a university where those seeking to earn degrees or become trained fighters for the Southern Riavelon League's military enroll. It seems all of the party was aiming toward the latter, having grown up as the children of the former Freedom Fighters and thus wanting to follow in their footsteps. Noelle is also established to be a revered figure even beyond her untimely demise back in Neegavia: Storm, as a statue was built in her honor in the university courtyard.
It also establishes Hymn current status as the Empress of the Southern Riavelon League, ruling for about 18 years. She has ruled for this amount of time without an election due to the instability of the current league, though she later plans to retire with her wife and let someone else take her position, election-style. She does not seemed to have changed much personality wise the last everyone saw her, perhaps trying to be more regal than normal but bits of her ascerbity peeking through.

Conflict

The conflict starts after everyone graduates, in which Arturia announces that a force comprising several former Freedom Fighters have been captured by the Kingdom of Serias and kept hostage. As the clock ticks, Sirius, terrified to imagine a world where his mother is dead, rushes in to go save her life. Smoothie, fearing the worst as both of her parents have been captured, follows suit. Philotes, after trying to reason with Empress Hymn, decides to ultimately ditch her to save their father, Nyx. Advike follows along due to not wanting to leave her friends behind.

Allies

Empress Hymn , the empress of the Southern Riavelon League and former leader of the Freedom Fighters about 19 years ago. She is accompanied by Arturia, a former Freedom Fighter and current knight of the Southern Riavelon League, having escaped the Kingdom of Serias' clutches and alerting her liege to their dastardly actions. Finally, Professor Shah was the professor of the students and an overall pleasant man.

Neutrals/Bystanders

The nameless students at the academy who did not exactly talk, but they do have their opinions regarding the sudden departure of our crew.

Adversaries

The Kingdom of Serias' squadron as a whole who have captured our player characters' parents are the evil of note in this chapter.

Backdrops

Locations

We start off in a classroom with dust caked in the highest corners. Bookshelves reach the ceiling, filled entirely with novels and textbooks. Light filters through the window behind the professor's desk, yellow in hue. The scent of old books wafts through the air and into people's noses, sometimes causing them to cough due to the excess of dust in there. Wooden desks sit organized in front of the professor's desk, allowing Shah a clear overview of everyone present and absent. Two chairs are at every desk, with our player characters seated nearby each other, of course!
Outside, the grass takes on a bright-green tint as the sun hits it, but snow clings to the top of roofs. Frost fills every crevice of the tilings, even on the pathways, and a chill lurks through the air. The chill proves enough for one to put on a coat or sweater to guard against sickness, and one can see their breath. The pathways, a beige tone, look relatively new as the Empress wanted to renovate the entire place and make it as accessible to people as possible. Those coming from even the coastlines can afford to go to the university as she manages to pay for everyone's tuition. Birds chirp overhead.

Encounters

This chapter takes on the role of an introduction to Neegavia: Solipsism as a whole and sets the tone for future chapters.

Past Events

The university was once under Emperor Fraenir's control, but after renovations, Hymn tried to wipe any trace of him away. However, some of the old navy-blue and amber colorings can be seen throughout the buildings.
