Naugur

Naugur is a world more ancient than time that has gone through many cycles of destruction and renewal. Society is still recovering from the last cataclysm three hundred years ago which has left the eastern continent of Eurbrura shattered and overrun by the monstrous races. The known majority of the free races live on the continent of Akuin in either in the nation of Donalon or the desert region known as the Glistening Expanse. Other major settlements include the genie enclaves of the Gilded Dunes, the Elven Kingdom of Uremalos, and the various islands of the Great Sea between Akuin and Eurbrura.   Oddly enough many of Naugur's inhabitants are or are descended from people who originally came from another plane before deliberately traveling here or being trapped. These planar refugees, known as the Planecast, brought much of their own culture and religion with them although their deities do not seem to be as active or as powerful in this realm. Speaking about religion, the majority of religious individuals follow one of the Ascended, former mortals who have reached something akin to demigod status by the actions through their lives. While the majority of the Ascended themselves would be the first to admit they are not truly divine, their followers (originally their servants or imitators of their deeds) tend to revere them as deities. Racial deities and fiendsh lords exist but have their power muted in a similar level to the Planecast deities which has led to their followers abandoning them or changes in their worshipers' societies as compared to other worlds: the most notable case would be the drow with the diminished influence of Lolth which has caused them to split between those who still follow Lolth's orders for a ruthless female-dominated societies and the males who rebel against this but create societies that are no less depraved. This also leads to a much higher proportion of people who possess a different morality than a typical member of their race due to the lessened influence of deities like the orcish Gruumsh One-Eye.   While Akuin has had a few years of peace since Donalon beat back the invasion of Ridalia and their draconic allies, tensions are beginning to rise once more. Civil war has erupted in Northern Donalon as the mighty noble house Riatin has become ever more aggressive in its attempts to claim the land of the smaller northern houses which have formed an alliance called the Greywaste Coalition. In part because of this conflict, the barony of Aridelle has seceded from Donalon and is funding the exploration and colonization of the new nation's southern frontier. Meanwhile, tensions between Donalon and Uremalos continue to rise while Ridalia and the dragon lords are building up their forces to strike at both the weakened Donalon and those inhabitants of the Glistening expanse who still resist their rule. The Underdark is constantly ravaged by the drow civil war as well as the conflict between the mind flayers and aboleths for mastery of the minds of the world. Hobgoblin pirates rule the seas while merrow and sahuagin battle merfolk, sea elves, and tritons below the waves. Reeling from the betrayal of one of their own, the Free Alliance of Eubrura has been reduced to a single peninsula nation and a few other isolated holdings by the combined might of the undead and several monstrous hordes. In addition to this, many ancient secrets are coming to light, some of which are best left forgotten.
