The Tamfelder

Almost a personification of the dangers of the night, the Tamfelder are a group of murderous dark entities. Several variations of the story are told accross tariksan.

Summary

Most stories claim that the Tamfelder hunt down and kill those who feel safe enough to leave their homes alone during the night. Such people will, upon turning to head back to their homes, instead see a horned fiendish figure waiting for them. In such cases the right thing to do is to bow your head and keep walking, and not to let the fear overtake you. However, if you run away (as most people do) the shadows will turn into monsters and soldiers of night that try and pull you in and kill you. Tamfelder are also associated with silence, sometimes thought to literally occupy it. Sometimes tales say that if the night is too quiet, that's because the Tamfelder are taking someone and they don't want you to know.

Historical Basis

Early settlers in pre-tariksan encountered a community of humans living in a valley they called Tamafold vale (now in Ray's Meadow township). These humans resented the impingemnt of new peoples, and it is belived that a group of them invoked the Devil-god Ulraden to help them terrorise the settlers. They may have summoned actual devils at times, but the only evidence is fragmented tales from the settlers that report mysterious disappearances and sightings of horned shadows.

In Literature

Tales of the tamfelder are common in childrens stories, and occasionally crop up in spoken and performed works. Recently, stories have described the Tamfelder as spiritual agents of porten, god of blood. However, the most accurate (and scholarly accepted) descriptions of the myth's origin is contained in Dalien's 'God by necessity - A comprehensive analysis of Loralist Duality'. She claims that the tamfelder were originally just humans, but that later interactions with Ulraden suggest that the practice is continued by minor devils under his command.
