The mystery of the net

The mystery of the net is the name given to a literary device that seems to span multiple religions and worldviews, not only among people but from the minds of dragons and fey and all things intelligent and wise. It is a small loose thread in a story, or an unanswered question, all somehow related to a net. This includes: the fighting net of a great hero that was missing before a great battle, a fishing net beloved by it's owner for it's ability to always be full, the origin of the net of fate that ensares all. Why this motif occurs so often with so little reason has baffled scholars of all kinds, and some believe the mystery of the net is somehow related to the nature of the universe itself, but noone knows why.

The context of each particular mystery of the net can vary, although it is usually associated with ill omen or disturbance in some way.
