Naicatl's Mycelial Defenses

Magic Mushrooms

Naicatl is a world of flora, with no fauna, but also no hierarchies, governments, or authorities. While there are societal constructs in place to prevent discordance among the peoples who inhabit Naicatl (the Nicatlains), there is another, inherent defense mechanism: Naicatl itself. (Or so it seems, anyway.)   If someone threatens or attempts to commit violence, create havoc, or cause disharmony, the landscape and its features can shift, maneuver, attack, and defend. It will incapacitate if possible, but has no qualms of shutting down a threat through death.   Many of the Zisanac practitioners of the world believe the earliest myths of Naicatl, stating that the surface of their world is an exoskeleton of sorts for a massive, slumbering deity; one community, whose work focuses on using plants as medicine, has a different myth.   This community has whispered of a tangled mycelium spanning beneath the landmasses and water features of their planet, whose fruiting body -- the luminescent mushrooms known to give one who consumes it secret knowledge of their own inner self -- is the last clue of its existence. This community, although unable to prove their myth, is right. The mycelium acts as a single mass to shift the landscape to prevent disharmony and discordance from impacting the Naicatlains and their own offspring, the plants (also known as the Nicatleins) -- and, unbeknownest to even those who know of the mycelium, the Nicatlains are the offspring of the mycelium as well.
