Myvarne's Ristes (Mi-var-neigh Ree-steys)

The Myvarne's Ristes

The Mother's Fingers (Myvarne's Ritses) is a mountain range of various peaks that form a circle around the valley region known as Myvarne Gristo, home of the giants. There are a total of six major peaks, which are all connected by a mostly continuous, semi-mountainous ridgeline in the rough shape of a ring. The peaks vary in height, with the taller ones in the north-east and the shorter ones in the south-west. The giants choose mostly to reside on the interior of this ring, although several small villages dot the outside, remnants of the citadels that once existed there before the Wars of Famine and the ensuing events of Myval's Massacre. The exterior bottom slopes of the mountain are, however, uncolonized for the most part, providing a buffer between the giant's territory of Myvarne Griste and the human kingdoms that surround them.

Geography

The Fingers are large peaks that tower several thousand feet into the sky, their tips often obscured by clouds that bash against the rock and break above the fertile Gristo valley. The peaks in the north-east are often stepper than their south-western counterparts, with tops that seem to veer off into sharp points if viewed from a distance. The north-eastern mountains are also far narrower, making their connecting ridgeline steeper and far less traversable as a result, with scant few paths that can safely lead up to the summit. The upper portions of these northern mountains are typically rockier, with scant grass and almost no trees, leaving the rock exposed to the elements. Avalanche and landslides are far more common because of this. The bases of the northern mountains, however, are often covered in short clumps of mountain-grass and small deciduous trees and ferns, making up an interchanging patchwork of forest and meadow which gradually fades to rock and dirt as one ascends the mountainside.   The southeastern mountains, on the other hand, have summits that are far softer and shorter, forming more hill-like humps instead of sharp peaks. Their tips are spotted with thin blades of pale green mountain grass, as well as the occasional spikey, thorny shrubs alongside pads of soft green moss that is often grazed upon by mountain goats. The lower portions have far more tree cover than their northern counterparts, forming expansive regions of forest around the peak's bases, providing covered avenues of travel.  The ridgelines that connect these peaks are often lower in altitude, but are wider at the top, more than a couple miles across in some areas. Their lower altitude and softer inclines make these mountains favored for the rare merchants and traveler caravans that make their way into Myvarne Gristo from the outlying human kingdoms.   As far as defense is concerned, the giants have formed few defensive structures along the north-eastern mountains and ridgelines save for the occasional watchtower or outpost, as this territory is considered mostly impassable for any large, threatening force, and is easily defendable. In the south-west, portions of defensive wall have been built along the lower, more easily traversable mountain passes, where guards keep a vigilant eye out for any possible signs of hostility, still wary from the events of the Wars of Famine that took place almost twenty years ago.
