The Northern Isles

A series of 6 islands in Northern Riggard is known as the Northern Isles, here lives the deep dwarves, a hardy people who’d much more prefer to dwell underground and built their massive stone cities than live on the surface. Many of the people in these underground cities who’ve never been on the surface fear that without a roof over their head they’d simply fall into the sky.
Therefore many an adventurer who comes from here are vary of going outside for the first time. But whomever do always makes a name for themselves as the Deep Dwarves strive for nothing but perfection. They’d sooner take on a dragon than risk loosing face and run away.
The 6 islands Karandor, Karangar, Karanthar, Karanfar, Karankar and Karanhar are all connected but not in the ways of bridges, but deep underground below the sea are tunnels stretching for thousands of miles, each leading to a great city that are capitals of these islands.
They often have a problem with Mindflayers and their ilk, as they tend to live underground aswell. A lot of their mines and tunnels have been closed off because of this problem, and even whole stretches of tunnels are lost because of the squid like beings. Which means a lot of treasure and wealth have been lost over time.
