The Shadow Realm (Shad-Oh Relm)

The name "The Shadow Realm" is a commonly agreed upon term for a negative life after death, and afterlife. None can say for certain what is on the other side when one dies because even in the rare cases of resurrection, no one has remembered what the other side is like other than sometimes hazy visions of fog, smoke, light, or events shortly after their death.
Different religions and beliefs have different beliefs for what causes one to be sent to The Shadow Realm after death. Some believe you must live a life of hatred and sin, others believe you need only make one bad decision, others say that is bullshit and that no one should be damned for one bad decision, and the arguments go on and on. There is no singular agreed upon reason why one would go to The Shadow Realm upon death other than being an individual who has not earned a place in The Bright World.
Some also say that one can be banished to the outer reaches of The Shadow Realm without dying, and while in these reaches of the realm there is nothing that can kill them, forcing them to suffer an eternity of darkness.
It's widely believed that one can go down layers in the planescape with relative ease, but going back up is nigh impossible outside of harrowing and difficult quests.
