Lamia (Lame-Eee-Ah)

A woman with human appearance sits atop a sandstone throne in an enclosed interior while a man grovels at her feet. Theman is on his hands and knees begging for his life, he begins to cry as mucus drains from his nose. The woman is disgusted and uses her serpentine lower half to constrict the man's body. She looks him in the eyes, telling him he is weak and should have tried harder in bed. As she utters the end of her sentence she crushes his body to leave him dying coughing up blood on the ground.

Lamia are commonly a murderous people from the desert of Faiftexl, though not all share this, it is a common trait in upbringing where lamia are most common. These people get little sleep due to their inability to close their eyes, and due to a wave of paranoia over being attacked or defrauded by others.
The powerful women who run the matriarchal society will eat the children of their society's criminals as sustenence to calm these nerves.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Lamia possess the upper bodies of other humanoid races with which they have relations, this usually being human. For their lower body, it can be near any animal but is most often a lion, a goat, or a serpent. Lamia usually have two arms with five fingers each along with a single head and face with two eyes, a nose, a mouth, two ears, and hair.
Lamia with the lower bodies of serpents are witches, these lamia also have a live serpent with which they can communicate telepathically that extends from the forearm of their dominant arm.

Genetics and Reproduction

Lamia reproduce in a standard sexual manner. Their gestation period is 3 months. The sparks of lamia magic come from their blood relation to the serpentine, the more serpentine blood a pairing has the more likely it is their child is born a witch.
The genes which determine a lamia's lower body are hereditary usually favouring the genes of the mother.

Biological Cycle

After birth, a Lamia grows at a standard rate with equivalence to its lifespan reaching physical maturity at 16 years of age. Emotional maturity then comes typically at 17 as they live to around 60 years. Lamia witches mature at the same rate but live to be around 100 years of age on average.

Lamia originally come from the deserts of Faiftexl on the planet of Mytharia and staying most common there due to the longlasting ties of blood.

Gender Ideals

In lamia society women are believed to be superior and to be born a man is to be born lower than those born as women. Women control the world of lamia, they wield the magic and the politics with grace and subject those below them to do their bidding. Transgender women exist, but to be accepted they would have to prove their superiority over men.
Those who don't find themselves as men or women are typically relegated to middle positions but can also be found in and out of positions of power.

Courtship Ideals

Lamia women typically take or are given what they want. They choose who they want and those that may be usually accept. In cases where they don't someone usually loses flesh.

Mytharia is a class 3 world. Lamia typically use class 2 technology with some class 3 mixed in.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Lamia are some of the last speakers of Serpentine speaking it as a vestige of their ancestors. The language is also spoken by most who live in the Lamic Nation.

History

Lamia were first seen towards the end of the age of scale and flower as descendants of the serpentine rulers of Faiftexl. Once the serpentine were sealed away, Lamia who survived began putting things back together in the lower desert and eventually established a nation. Over the ensuing centuries the lamia would build a foothold there and be among very few who managed not to lose their witches in the hunts when the age of scale and flower came to an end and being one of even fewer to keep a population of witches alive.
The lamia set themselves apart in their nation as their nobles used magic to subjugate the lower class and remain in power, without being hunted down and killed by the witch hunters. Lamia did however begin arresting non-lamia witches within the country who would not be seen again.
A matriarchal society would be fashioned in the desert from the blood of their enemies, and the blood of their prisoners and their children.
