Pheames Forest

Stay out of the Feywood, my dear. Unless you want to find yourself surrounded by talking devil beasts and sentient plants, not to mention those uncanny Elves. Many who wander there never return, and 'tis said that those who wander there eventually become more like beasts than men.
  • Shakren Fellwood, ignorant human farmer near Taff.
  • Geography

Pheames Forest is located between Taff and the spurs of the Backridge Mountains, nestled into the Lowered Vale. The forest floor consists mostly of rolling hills, with some small clearings and flatlands throughout. The Amariel River Valley is on lower ground than the rest of the forest, and cuts through the northern half of the forest, letting out southeast of Taff.

    Fauna & Flora

Considering that the Elven touch has an effect on a land after much occupation, the Elfwood is an extremely magical territory. This has led to the creation of a unique assortment of flora and fauna in this territory. The local Hafarad Tree, which creates most of the forest, has silver leaves, with a golden underside, creating a silver forest from a distance, and a golden canopy overhead. The Hafarad's bark is a smooth golden-brown, and the trees are massive, stretching upwards for hundreds of feet, with trunks that are at least thirty feet around. Colorful songbirds roost in their branches, and it is rumored that the Elven cities also rest among their towering limbs. The ground flora come in an array of colors, and are used for a variety of magical purposes. The land is in a continuous state of Autumn, with comfortable weather and gentle breezes, but without the dying plants. None of the trees or plants ever lose all of their leaves.    The animals are all half sentient, and possess certain abilities, due to the magic in the air. Though most cannot talk, they understand Sylvan and Elven, and can be persuaded to help travelers in their realm if unthreatened. Many of them come in different colors to normal animals, in order to provide better camouflage in the rainbow plants. Many unusual, oftentimes considered mythical, beasts can be found here, such as Pegasi, Unicorns, and Fairy Dragons.

    History

Pheames Forest has been the home of the Elven folk for nearly the entire history of Mythador. The first recorded settlements cropped up after the Rending, but tradition states that the Elves lived there for centuries before that as well. It was a contested territory for much of the Age of Civilization, with Humans attempting to explore and live there, and Elves simply wishing to be left alone. An eventual, tenuous peace led to many human mages apprenticing under Elven spell casters, which contributed to the rise of Mages in Mythador, and the eventual Mage Era. The forest was nearly destroyed during the Epoch of Peril as the demons harbored an especial hatred for the Elves, but the civilization managed to survive through refugees that fled to caves in the Backridge Mountains. Following the closing of the Voidportal, the Elves quickly rebuilt their forest through the power of magic and their connection to the fey realm, and it has flourished ever since.
