The Black Bog
A Breathing Swamp
Deep in the heart of Huscha, a roiling mass of flesh and sinew churns and emits grotesque and disturbing crimes of nature. The waters of the marsh turn to ink as blood stains everything from mangroves choked by parasitic figs to the thick miasma of escaping vapor. Verdant algae grew black as red melded with the greenery. The smell of copper floats along the carrion clad rivers. The Black Bog's danger is not just its toxic waters, but what lurks in the murky depths. At the center of the bog resides an amorphous organism thats only lives to grow. Created by a golem smith who became consumed by his own creations, it expanded and grew. This pulsating core of life stayed deep in the bog, unbeknownst to anyone but the wildlife around. At some point since that creature's creation, it ruptured. Blood emerged, and never clotted. What power that led the being to continue growing was transformed into a teminally bleeding mound.Evolutionary Threats
Whether it be by some poor soul who cut it, or by some force of nature, a mutation created a new branch of evolution in which creatures became born of the bleeding mass and became equipped to traverse their hemoglobin filled landscape. An ecosystem unlike anything seen before, biologists from all across Myrmier seek out this malevolent mire as a study of early natural selection and adaptive radiation. Most researchers were not prepared for the extremely hostile life that evolved from such a harsh and cutthroat environment, but the few who learned to live within the gore could document this unique and dangerous community. The Black Bog does pose many threats to the rest of Huscha and the rest of the world however. The seemingly infinite blood oozing from the center of the swamp continues birth new and increasingly efficient lifeforms that could serve as bioweapons if brought out into the docile environment outside of the mire. To that notion, natural disaster level crises could emerge from a terrifying alien-like organism escaping the bog and wreaking havoc on native species and societies. The only conceivable way to stop this looming threat is to destroy the nexus spawning the blood beasts.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
