Lemouille

Masters of water   Also known as the Lemouillites, they are an amphibious people more comfortable under water than they are on land. The Lemouille people are perhaps among the most intellectual of all the races found on Terra. This fact is not lost them either as they will often think very highly of themselves. They have long though themselves as rivals to the Humans thought why has been lost to time. In recent memory, many Lemouillites are much more down to earth and interactions between all races of Terra are frequent.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Lemouillites each have many unique traits which is believed to have been passed down from their ancestors. It is true that they all evolved from the same cells, however, many different species must have mingled throughout the years and thus came to be the Lemouille people.   Generally, a Lemouillite is either short and plump or tall and thin with little differences in the middle. Their skin is covered in a mucus allowing them to remain hydrated outside of the water. This is integral to their survival as drying up is fatal. Their whole bodies are very flexible which allows them to swim as well if not better than any other aquatic life. Both their fingers and toes are all connected by webbing which helps them swim, but can be a hindered when interacting with other objects outside of the water. The Lemouille people are represented in a multitude of colors and patterns. Some Lemouillites have tails while others do not. It all depends on their ancestral origins.

Genetics and Reproduction

Lemouillites are oviparous creatures. Once an egg is fertilized, the mother will lay the egg underwater. The Lemouillites have designated nurseries for expecting parents where the eggs will remain safe under the supervision of dedicated wet nurses. The parents can come and go as they wish though most enjoy staying as long as possible with their coming child. The eggs will hatch within a month's time.

Growth Rate & Stages

The Lemouille people have long lifespans. It may take a month for an egg to hatch, but the larval state of a Lemouillite baby will last close to 5 years. In those five years, the baby will not leave the water. The babies, under the supervision of the wet nurses and their parents will be provided proper nutrients which consists of plant matter only. Once their bodies have developed into infancy, they will be able to climb out of the water and take their first breath. From the 5th year to the 10th, the infant Lemouillite will begin to learn how to speak, read & write all at once. They attend communal studies as well as learn from the parents. Once they reach their 11th year, they enter adolescence. Teachings are mostly complete, though master courses are made available to those whom show great interest in a specific subject. The majority of Lemouillite adolescents choose to pursue their academic goals. The others will begin to contribute to their communities and, usually, practice a trade. Once they reach their 16th year, they are finally considered adults.

Ecology and Habitats

The Lemouille people require moisture and humidity to survive. Therefore, they live where the water is plentiful.   The Lemouillites build their homes using refined stones and a process known only to them. Their homes are often constructed out of a single structure. They work very hard to accommodate other species. Normally, they would be content to build everything underwater, however, they build just as lavishly above the water's surface doubling their workload. Since the Lemouillites are a proud people, you'll never hear them complain about such things however.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The Lemouille people are omnivore. They prefer meat as their primary nourishment which will consist of fish, crustaceans, pork and lamb. Additionally, they will have plant matter and some vegetables. The Lemouillites have a certain fascination with flora. While the meat is primary in their meals, they love to add different types of plants to their meals as a delicacy.

Social Structure

The Lemouillites follow a monarchy much like the one found in the Human communities. The Lemouille people refer to their hierarchy as an Empire rather than a kingdom and thus, they follow the leadership of their Emperor.
