Ten Kingdoms

By Konrad Bennett Hughes
Ten Kingdoms The ten ancient kingdoms are now but a collection of small nations and city-states spread across the continents, linked by ancient ties of blood and magic to Isulstad, the City Isle, the Island of the Gods. At the dawn of man’s civilization, the Ten Families lived upon this island with the Ten Gods, and these “Children of the Gods” learned much of the earth and how to tame it from the Gods in their generations spent here. Sent out to the many corners of the earth these families set up the Ten Kingdoms in ancient times, ruling the other creatures of the earth with powers given by their deities unheard of elsewhere.   In time, these kingdoms clashed in war with each other leading to the very foundations of the earth to be shaken; the temples and home of the Gods, upon the top of the mountain on Isulstad, were destroyed by an unholy union of the wind Goddess’ chief servant, Typhoon, a giant black winged horse, and the sons of Anaxaneas, the hero of the Golden Age. With mighty magics they scoured the mountaintop of its beautiful paradise, leaving the Ten God’s connection to earth damaged. Their constant maintenance of weather and climate was compromised, and the patterns of the earth have become erratic, at times devastating, in the past thousand years since the end of the Golden Age.
