Huhber Maximus

Huhber Maximus held The Throne of Sight for a century, his death not long after the end of the Herrodian War shook the nations, however he had been in retreat from society for years, his wife hiding his frailty. The Throne had sucked the life out of him, left a shell of a man. The power which had coursed through his veins had worn his soul ragged. For only very short periods of the day was he lucid and cognizant. Most of his days filled with ponderings upon the Throne. His use made his condition worse, but he needed it also, as did the Armies of the Confederacy of Kingdoms. After his death, his children squabbled over his lands to the East (the stretch West of the Spine Mountains just east of Isulstad). Only his son Carl protected his wife, sister of The Bruce, High Lord Admiral of Telephos. She was the Matriarch of the Telephos Ward of Isulstad. Each Ward was ruled over by a family, policed, populated, defended by clients and colonists from their home Kingdoms, a separate city of itself within the great city-isle.
