Yoke Twin

Yoke Twins are the unfourtinate byproduct of chick development within yoke eggs going wrong, resulting in a conjoined set of twins.

Causes

Typically harpies born from yoke eggs develop into yoke twins due to the two yolks getting stuck together within the egg during incubation, resulting in the two harpy chicks to be fused together, interwoven through flesh and bone.

Symptoms

The development of a set of intermingled twins causes them to grow inside of each other. However, how they grow can vary greatly from one set of twins to another, but this typically results in doubled muscle mass grown together, and both twins being completely stuck. this results in limbs growing from the conjoined body where it shouldn't, and the formation of two independent bodies stuck together.

Treatment

Some treatments for yoke twins can seperate them and have them grow up normally, similarto yolk twins, but only if they're attatched in specific ways. Magic or traditional medicine is the most common way to seperate yolk twins at birth. However certain formations cannot be undone without risk to either twin's health, as many formations have their spines, organs and muscle so thoroughly interwoven that it could result in death for one or both twins. Because of this, it's common for those that cannot be seperated to stay together for the rest of their lives.

Prognosis

During development, the twins can form in several variations, but many of these are fatal and will likely result in death during infancy, whether an incidental one or a merciful one. Though some twins are born in a way that can either be treated or can live mostly normal lives, so long as proper precautions are taken. Though development does have a pattern, albeit a minute one. Typically twins have two heads, increased muscle, and additional limbs.

Prevention

The only prevention for this condition is for harpies with yoke's disease to never fertilize their eggs as to not bring yoke twins into this world. It's a decision that an increasing amount of harpies must make for the future of their would-be children. The sociatal standards for harpies to continue the struggled existence of their species is one that weighs on the wings of every harpy, and to betray that is to become a sociatal outcast.

History

The term for this condition was named after its progenitor; the twins of Yoke, a young harpy with yoke's disease.

Cultural Reception

Yoke twins are considered children in harpy culture, albeit conjoined ones. Many yoke twins may experience a level of distancing from their peers due to their condition, but rarely do harpies consider them a mistake, simply another child that was given a bad start. They're taken care of to the best of their ability, and often die in the wings of the mothers unfourinate enough to be unable to give these harpies the lives they deserved.
