Dragons

A rare species of sentient, highly magically powerful, large, winged lizard creatures that live in the southernmost and northernmost reaches of Mundus. Their races' intellect is comparable to that of the oldest of elves, and while not necessarily belligerent have been known to be extremely territorial. Most of their kind wish for nothing to do with the races of Mundus, others have had wars over territory for them, few still have befriended smartfolk. The more belligerent, territorial factions do keep having small conflicts with the rest of sapientkind to keep them away from their lands but for the most part conflicts are few and far between as most battles have simply become a cease-fire since ancient times and mutual agreements were established by most countries after gruesome wars over land.   Dragons detest being compared to Drakes and Wyverns, and even House Glaurung feel insulted when correlated to the species.   The Nidauar The House of Nidhogg Live in the innermost reaches of the Gyugya Jungle region of Lower Ozmania. They are a race of 40 to 100 ft-tall magically powerful snakes with wings, sometimes bearing six limbs (four legs and the wings), four limbs (two arms and two wings) or simply two wings with large, opposable talons they can use for grabbing and manipulating. They are often seen by airship sightings all over the Gyugya Jungle and all around the  Tree, making it one of the least-explored areas in the world of Munds: the threat of a Nidauar finding explorers explorers is always met with lethality. The Nidauar have culture as has been observed from afar, but they have never once been known to share words with what they consider 'lesser' sapientkind other than as insults, mindgames and spite.   Nidhogg, The Greatserpent, father of the Nidauar listened to Tiamat in their ancient history and became enthralled by her knowledge of the universe. The Nidauar are considered to have been tainted by the teachings of Tiamat by the other dragon houses, and their actions show that they are clearly more aggressive than they need to be. The Nidauar are extremely sadistic and ruthless when encountered, and have never shown their culture willingly to those of other ilk. Three things contain the Nidauar from attacking outside the range of distance of the Gyugya Jungle: the massive, fruit-eating fauna that live around the Ueva Tree, which the Nidauar prey on to keep their race fed, the Hast'gye Feymarch north of the jungle, and the Antarielle Dragon War.   The Kyn The House of Kayne A race of sleek, four legged, large dragons scaled in blue. They are winged, and also have sharp talons at the knuckles of their wings that they can use as weapons. Although the Kyn are the smaller of the species, their largest ones reaching a few 50 meters in size, they are the fastest and most cunning by far. Their scales can be quite sharp and they do indeed use their scale-covered bodies as weapons against trespassers into their territories. They rarely speak to humans but when they do its usually to insult them and to ask them to leave. Several thousands of them have territories in the northernmost, polar regions of the Vestgaian continent. Vehr, Seafron and Calintos are nations that share contact with the Kyn, and although their nations are steeped in several bloody wars relative, seldom-disturbed peace between the terrotories' inhabitants.   Kayne is the original royal bloodline in their culture, the first Dragonlord of his kind, and they revere the dragon as the Diviner of Laws. Kayne saw that Tiamat was coming before she got back to Dragnan, but had told her to leave back when she'd come, knowing she was infected with the Starplague. The rejection of the other Dragonlords annoyed him and he came to listen to Tiamat reluctantly. When informed of the beauties of the stars Kayne rejected the Dragonlords and became envious of her knowledge. He secluded himself and his kind in a part of Dragnan until the Xeanites came, where he sacrificed himself so his kin could leave their dying world safely.   The Darge House of Dirge The Darge live in the southernmost regions of Lower Ozmania, specifically in the Island of Alcatork, southwest of the southernmost Ozmanian continent and just north of the Antcatartic continent's Leinfa Peninsula. The Darge are large winged dragons with vibrant orange or yellow scales that tend to have either magenta-colored or pink-colored highlights along their limbs. Their general shape is humanoid, but with thick-set limbs that make them look like muscular giants. The Darge are locked in a constant war with the Nidauar, and while they will not share their territories with other species have sometimes come to the aid of smartfolk communities in their area every once in a while.   Dirge, the Thunderscale, was a massive Darge and one of the first five Dragonlords of Dragnan. Dirge was curious about Tiamat's vision and came to know them, but he refuted and debated the need to seek the stars for others as she had wanted to. When the schism came, the legion of Dirge's kin became one of the main defendants of the Legion of Bahamut. To this day   The Glaur The House of Glaurung The House Glaurung dragons are very similar to the Darge, except their wings are vestigial and they are forced to walk on land.   The Calymx The House of Calamitos

Additional Information

Average Intelligence

Dragons are known to be some of the wisest creatures in the known world and extremely magically powerful, leaning into a spectrum of the Animus line. Sadly they do not like sharing the planet with the rest of sapientkind, and prefer to keep largely to themselves, though some few exceptions exist and are exceedingly rare. Dragons are short-tempered and proud, and tend to treat the rest of the lesser species with some amount of disdain and aggression. The only, smaller faction that did befriend smartfolk had been used as a weapon in the Fey Wars almost to their extinction, and only a score remain that hold the House name Glaurung.

Civilization and Culture

Average Technological Level

Despite their capacity for a high level of intelligence dragons are actually satisfied with little. Largely as a result of their 'punishment', per the Baamaundan Law Runes, for attempting taking over the stars, the Bahamutian Houses believe in heavy restraint of all things power. Due to this Bahamutian Houses that are able able to create and reason are often only seen creating ornate caves, when they claim they could live in ornate manors if they so wished. This, save for those of House Glaurung, which are known to wear garbs and fashion
