Mistwarden

A mistwarden was a profession intrinsically tied with the island of Lanngarrow and the magical mists which kept it concealed from outsiders.
Origin
The island of Lanngarrow has always been the home of the firkin species. These kith are believed to be the favourite children of Onora, the goddess of magic and dreams. It is said that she blessed the firkin home with powerful illusions to protect little kith, and that she taught the first mistwardens how to hide it from other kith and dangerous monsters. Ever since those days, the firkin lived a life of peaceful isolation, only rarely venturing out of Lanngarrow to meet with the other kith and learn of the world outside.
Responsibilities
The chief responsibility of mistwardens was to maintain the veil of mists that blanketed the isle. The exact method is not known outside of their own order, as it is a carefully guarded secret. Ancient sites of stone structures litter the shores and peninsulas of Lanngarrow, which are believed to have once played a vital role in maintaining this veil.   What is known is that mistwardens were devout followers of The Evening Star, the goddess who took the firkin under her wing. They acted as mediators between the members of their community and the goddess, helping induce dreams which soothe anxieties and bring answers to lead the petitioner forward in life.
Obsolescence
As the firkin broke out of their isolation around the turn of the 15th century, the need for mistwardens faded away like the mists that once shrouded Lanngarrow. Many former mistwardens still live to this day, but they have not been sanctioned to work in well over a century.   It is said that some mistwardens turned to the life of piracy, employing their skills to ambush ships or lead them against the rocky coasts of the Sea of Sorrows.
