Vivlíomatos (Viv-Lee-Oe-Ma-Tose)

The Book of Blood

The Vivlíomatos was an artifact that was created as an almanac for all the discoveries and breakthroughs in the field of Hemomancy.

Description

Only one copy of the Vivliomatos exists, with any other possible copies either being destroyed or fake. The original from the Brothers of Blood, was a book written with blood from the cults members. The cover contains writings in the ancient language and depicts an arcane circle.   The book can be edited by the owner and most possessors of the Vivliomatos have added contributions to the tome over the eras. Therefore, the book looks rough, with pages made from different materials, and different writing styles in multiple languages. A major reason why this book is so hard to read and navigate through was because of its non-uniformity. Therefore, it took a long time to read through the book.

Powers

Reading the entire Vivliomatos took about seven days or, to be more precise, eighty hours. Upon completion, a chaotic spellcaster, such as a wizard, gained enough insight that it allowed him or her to grow in power and become more insightful into matters in relation to hemomancy, vampirism, and biology. Reading the book strengthened the users body at the cost of other aspects. The understanding and control of blood and living creatures would grant the reader the use a dominate monster effect on any living creature.   To lawful and neutral people, the book was dangerous. Reading it physically altered them and their personality changing it to that of a chaotic person. If they also happened to be a spellcaster, the book sapped their essence away but conferred no benefits.   The book could be used as a magical implement that was more effective against non-chaotic creatures than against chaotic ones.   The book had an actual corrupting effect on the personality of the user and those within 5 feet from the user. The book actually modified their personality to become that of a chaotic person. This corrupting effect could be deliberately utilized to harm those nearby, causing the blood of the reader to rot along with the blood of their enemies.   The books' most fearsome ability was that it was easy to edit. Every time the Vivliomatos fell into the hands of someone, that someone would add new pages, changing the content according to the current owner's priorities, and expanding on the unknown knowledge of the study of hemomancy

Historical Details

Background

The Vivlíomatos was created by a forgotten writer, and expanded upon by the Brothers of Blood as an almanac of everything in relation to the practice of Hemomancy. At the time of its conception, hemomancy was a relatively new and unexplored school of magic, and the tome was to be the repository of all discoveries made in the fledgling field.

History

The completion of this tome became a prominent part of the Brothers of Blood's goals and proceeded to gather the interest of several prominent wizards of the time. However, as the document became more complete, the fear of hemomancy within the eyes of the general public grew, until the people sought out the eradication of the Brothers of Blood, and the banning of the practice of Hemomancy.

Public Reaction

Public reactions were mostly negative, with it becoming one of the many factors that would lead to the Brothers of Blood's downfall. Though the reactions were deadly to some, others saught the power this book contained, allowing it to pass by undetected after the Brother's fall, until it eventually ended up in the hands of the eventual vampire Seravith Von Strucker.

Legacy

The fear of the knowledge the document contained led to the banning of any practice of Hemomancy, and the eradication of all other books related to the subject, with rare few surviving to the modern day in any of the 3 realms of the Brievary.
