Tomb of Grimstone

Over four thousand years ago, during the Exitium Era, a powerful wizard formed the arcane city of Osseus at the foot of Mount Vertex. The wizard, Mirrikh Grimstone, sought to gather the greatest minds of his generation to his new land, and in doing so, help unravel the secrets of magic and bring forth a new era in arcane power. Thanks to Grimstone's influence, the arcane city grew in population, and many magical discoveries were made.   As his power and influence grew, and his knowledge deepened, Grimstone became a bit unhinged. His knowledge and influence caused nearby lords and kingdoms to view him and his city through eyes of greed. To combat the threat of spies and assassins, Grimstone created the Osseus Guard, and assigned his greatest servants to positions of power within the city.   Nearing the end of his lifespan, the deranged wizard Grimstone turned to necromancy, turning his city into that of a military district, and performing dark experiments on his subjects. To preserve his life indefinitely, Mirrikh Grimstone turned to dark powers, and vile beings to learn the secrets of lichdom, crafting a tomb that would empower and feed a phylactery. This tomb would help to insure that Grimstone never truly died.   Fate, however, would not look kindly on the actions Grimstone had taken, and just before Grimstone started the ritual to craft his phylactery, the unified lords and kingdoms that surrounded him lead a raid on the arcane city of Osseus, slew Grimstones mortal body, and trapped him and his followers in his tomb to starve to death and be forgotten.   For millennia, the tomb sat untouched, buried beneath a landslide, and festering with the restless souls of Grimstone's servants, incapable of moving to the afterlife. In recent years, people have all but forgotten the tale of Mirrikh Grimstone, and the ruins of Osseus are forever buried beneath the dirt and trees.
